Hahaha well.. if you're all sure you can't make the money from it, then clearly you cant.

I guess in that case, it is a scam.

Touche, arrogance.

And so they saw a light as bright as a thousand suns that shone through the very core of the few who watched it.

The nuke was finished.

Maybe by 'free' they mean they'll accept any trade for it, which considering how little some items are worth would for all practical purposes be as good as free. The 'need to offer an item' is a neopets necessity, not one of their demands.

Trading Post Rules I Wish They Had:

-No "Free" items. If you want to give away something for free, go to the Money Tree.

-No "Safe Keeping" trades. That's what a Safety Deposit Box is for

-No "Nah Nah Look What I have" trades. We have Galleries for that.

-Don't use the Trading post as a "shop". Selling things for what they are worth for "pure only" is kind of pointless.

-YES List what you want for the trade! We can't read your mind, and not stating what you want makes things hard on both ends.

I do like the trading post, I've gotten some nice deals on there (My Island Paintbrush was sold to me for a fair price by a nice person), but it's turning into a cesspool of nonsense.

In a semi-unrelated musing, I wonder how bad inflation and such would be if TNT upped the limit on how much we can price things in shops. Did the 99,999 limit always exist?

Marymouse- The limit used to be lower than 99999, but it's been so long since they changed it- at least 5 years- that I don't remember what it used to be.

What I do remember is what happened when the limit was raised. Lacking the programming skills to set everything in shops to zero when the change occurred :P, TNT announced it in the news for a week or so and warned everyone to change their unbuyables to 100K or more. On vacation or temporarily lacking computer access? Too bad. When the day arrived some well-known gallery shops were plundered.

Oh man, that would be horrible! Although now that problem wouldn't happen since you physically can't put things in your shop over 99,999.

I'm still curious what would happen if there was NO limit... I wonder if it would have a positive or negative effect on the price of "unbuyables".

Ah well. :)

Can we also add: Actually put what you want, not 'no junk, I know what this is worth!1!!!11" It's great they know, but what about those who want to actually trade for it.

Is it against neorules (freezeable offence) to put a lie on a trade lot (e.g. "full lab set" with only 8 pieces)? I've seen many people do this. ~scottnc32093

Yes, this is a form of scamming. If you see someone blatantly lying about an item or trade lot, please report them. Basically, if you put up a lot, whether it be eight lab maps or baby paint brush plushies, with the hope or intention that some unobservant person will think it's the real deal, then you are scamming.

Game, set, and match.

She also says, "no junk." So, yeah. Not free.

Um. I guess you have very few unbuyables then. You cannot put them in the shop for what they are worth, and cannot have access to them if you put them for auction. Bleh. Trading Post is the ONLY practical place to sell a 600K item for pure neopoints. Especially hard to sell items that you may ahve to relist for action many times.

I see nothing wrong with asking for pure or asking for 100K more in items than pure neopoints for an item.

Marymouse, I agree with all of your rules except the one about pure nps trading. Since you can't sell unbuyables in your shop, it's only fair that you sell them on the TP.

I really do detest the "reserved", "not for trade", "join my guild", "safekeeping" type of trades, though. I've seriously thought of just reporting every one I see, and maybe getting my like-minded friends on Neopets to do the same, just to see if TNT would crack down on these things (I haven't tried this because that's probably considering backseat modding and would only aggravate TNT staff). I don't think this sort of offense deserves a freezing/suspension, but I think it does warrant a warning and TNT should cancel/delete all such trades.

I am also sick of people not posting what they want in the wishlist. GAAAAH. I mean, sometimes some items are so rare that they only show up on TP, and only a few, and sometimes NONE of those traders give info about what they want so I'm clueless as to what to offer and I have to neomail each of them to ask and wait for their responses and...and...okay, /end rant. >_< Point is, TP can be very annoying. It's also invaluable to get rare, unbuyable items, but a bit of modding from TNT would improve it greatly.

More on topic, I would say go ahead and report this trade. :P You can tell TNT what you think is wrong with it; it's up to TNT to decided whether they think it's a scam or a harmless advertising scheme.

I put things up as "reserved" all the time. It's a very easy way to send things to other accounts, especially if you want to send groups of things at once. For example, I used it when I sent my completed Lab Map to my side -- much asier than doing "Send to Neofriend" 9 times. People I know use it all the time to loan avatar items. It's also the only way I know of to get Neoponts to a side.

I don't like people putting things on the TP for "safekeeping" (that's what the SDB is for!) or to brag any more than anyone else, but a "reserved" lot is still being traded. It's just that it's being traded to a specific person.

Yup. I made several *for 'nickname of friend other that username'* trades just now. Giving out contest prizes, gifts, transfers, prezzies, and thank you gifts ... TP is great for such things.

This is a question I've had for some time about reporting trade lots to TNT. Obviously, blatant scams should be reported. But among other rule breakers, what should be reported and what is backseat modding? For instance, I've been known to report chain letter trades because they're so darn annoying. Okay or not? And is reporting NFT trades too much?

I don't see what's so bad about "reserved" or "neofriend only" trades. Face it, they are GOING to happen anyway. It's up to the owner of the item what they accept and what they don't. Wouldn't you MUCH perfer them tell you upfront that they aren't going to accept your offer no matter what ahead of time? Or would you rather tie up neopoints and items when you could be bidding on trades you have a chance at getting? I know I'd rather be told and move on. Reporting such trades seems short sighted and self defeating to me, besides what rule are they breaking? As far as I know there is nothing wrong with trading to friends, even trades specifically to transfer, and if there where how in the world would they enforce it?
