Neopets cards availability

Mon May 22, 2006 12:05 am

I noticed that last fall all Neopets merchandise was on clearance everywhere (Toys R Us, Target, WalMart), then after that you couldn't find it. Target still gets a small amount of cards. I just ordered some online because they were so much cheaper than a local shop we've been too. But, I agree we need to support local businesses, especially those that will host tournaments. I'll go back there soon!

Edit: I ordered mine at http://www.collectorscache.com

Our local TRU doesn't stock 'em, the WotC that used to be in our mall went away last year, etc. Right before Easter I found a small stash of 2-packs at our local Target (in a dark and dusty corner) and bought them all so the Easter Bunny could give them to my kid. Of course, they have not been restocked since then... :x

Totally understand there. I used to be able to find packs pretty much anywhere until Curse of Maraqua. For some reason since then they've become a lot more sparse, but some places still get them in. Not that it matters to me, because I purchase all of my cards on the internet.

Where is a good place to buy them online?

If you have a local comic shop or two, call them up and ask if they have them in stock. I like supporting mine more anyway, and they keep a good stock of Neopets TCG in stock (not just the latest expansion).

*nod* I actually called our local gaming shop and they don't stock Neopets cards, although they can get them in... What's so great about Yu-Gi-Oh, anyway? :P

Well I play a multitude of other trading/collectible/customizable card games, but Yu-Gi-Oh is definitely not one of them, nor are they any of the other games Wizards of the Coast makes besides Neopets (used to play a lot of their games, but they have zero respect for their customers), but I'm too much of a Neopets addict not to.

In any event, I usually purchase my cards online from http://www.dacardworld.com. They have their Base Set and Battle for Meridell boxes marked down cheap, although I think they are sold out at the moment.

And I wholeheartedly encourage you to order from your local comic shop. Even if you have to pay ten dollars more, it's totally worth it because they're the ones who, as you said, would host the tournaments and such. Plus, if you have them order some cards and only buy a couple packs, they'd probably at least have the rest out on display and something might start. That happened with another game here, and now we draw tournaments of eight to ten people =).

Oi, I had a nice message written yesterday and just when I wanted to post, something happened with my connection. Anyway, the shop I stopped at had OK to high prices on small things, but their boxes are absolutely high compared to online stores. A box of cards there cost $110, whereas the online store I provided above charges between $50 and $85, depending on which series it is. In any case, I won't be buying boxes any time soon! Ziggy, if you're 15, what do you do to earn money to buy boxes? Just curious! I guess parents' allowances are big these days. I'll check out the online store you gave (it sounds like a rapper place, however!). Thanks everyone for help and engaging chat. :)

EDIT: OK, I just went there. They have smaller boxes of cards that I hadn't seen before. It's neat that they have the magazine at a discount, but their Neopets cards overall are more limited than the other store (though, like I said, they have smaller boxes of cards that are more affordable). They have a really great selection of card protectors and deck boxes (I want them all! ).

Well, to get my money I have a really good babysitting gig. I get paid $15/hour, and the kids are 7 and 9 and like Star Wars, Harry Potter and stuff like I do, so it's a really cool job. Considering I usually watch them one a week, and on Saturdays (when I do) usually from about 6 pm to 4 am . . . it adds up.

In any event, cslewislover, the 'smaller boxes' you speak of are actually retail packs. See, in retail stores they would place packs of cards inside bigger containers so they could hang on a peg and not just lay on a shelf. When you are buying a smaller box, you are getting less cards in a different kind of packaging for less money.

Oh, and as for the "rapper place" comment, it's 'cause the owners are named Dave and Adam, hence Dave and Adam's Card World. Although I agree wholeheartedly. And for the protectors, I am not too fond of some of the new colors that UltraPro released, 'cause I've been buying them for about six years. There was one series that is really good, but it's long out of stock. In fact, I ended up paying 15 bucks for one pack of 50 count protectors to finish sleeving my Bajoran deck (Star Trek CCG). Good times.

Sorry for going off-topic here. In any event, the Haunted Woods TCG hopefully will be heavily pushed by Neopets more than just the magazine. Sometimes I get the feeling that TCG spoilers are just filler pages in the magazine, honestly.

WOW, great job. Till 4am? Goodness.

Since I made an order the other day, I thought I'd buy the Haunted Woods cards at Target. That's too bad about your protectors; I thought I'd buy different colors for different decks. I just wish you could tell what they looked like better from the online photos. My son likes that one with the giant lizard eye on the back! As far as the magazine, we subscribe to it and I don't remember them having anything about the Haunted Woods cards coming out, but maybe I'm mistaken.

Did you see my last message in the game strategies section? We still haven't gone through the rules well - to me it all takes time since I have lots of other things to do!

cslewislover, I read your last message but didn't really have anything to respond to, but I'll keep an eye on it. And as far as I know, the latest issue of the Neopets magazine didn't say anything about the expansion yet, but next issue probably will. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that The Haunted Woods gets a push from The Neopets Team. I thought we were onto something good when Adam wrote the 'statistics' article for the Base Set of the TCG, but their enthusiasm has . . . dwindled. Heck, I'd even be more than willing to write some strategy articles (I have done so in my spare time), but I don't think anybody would read them anyway.

Do you think they'd publish your articles in the Neopian Times? Have you tried? Maybe Neopets Trading Card game hasn't gone over that well for two reasons: it's aimed at younger kids in general and it has no cartoon on TV. But yea, they should try to push it more somehow. The whole Neopian world is a perfect setting for the game.

I doubt they'd publish any articles about the TCG in the Neopian Times, but I don't know. Good suggestion all the same.

Where to order cards

Sat Jun 17, 2006 1:43 am

Does anyone know good places to buy or order cards? Ziggy already posted http://www.dacardworld.com, and I've found http://www.collectorscache.com. Both sites have their good and bad points (dacardworld doesn's have Haunted Woods booster packs, only the 36 pack box). My son and I went to two different Targets today looking for the cards, but neither had the new ones out. :x Thanks!

I usually end up buying my packs on ebay. I'd love to support the FLGS more but they typically charge at least $20 more per box than I can get over ebay, including shipping.

It's really sad the lack of support the game gets from both WoTC and TNT. There's a store in my area that supports weekly tournaments and has a good turnout but I know that's rare. It's a fun game but I think it might be a touch more difficult than what people expect. I used to work as WoTC volunteer demoing their games and IMO Neopets TCG is not all that easy to just pick up and play.

Ziggy, noils.com is a site where you could post strategy articles ;).
