I am certain it is random to get past the water works puzzle. Very late last night I got home and seen the Protector had been released, followed the steps provided at the beginning of this thread, and got through the door with no problem. Clicked the various dials and levers for a short while, but nothing. So then I started reading the thread to see if there was an actual pattern to solve the water works, and saw that after a while it would flood and you would start over. I figured it would be easier to start over than to figure which ones I had clicked wrong. I went into the room on the left and just alternated clicking on the two dials. After about the fifth or sixth set of just clicking on the two dials and doing nothing else, I got the "rerouted properly" page. Since I was just going back and forth between the two dials, and they were in the "winning" posistion more than once before I properly rerouted, there cannot be a certain pattern to get through this part.
Ironically, this makes the most sense. Whoever commented this puzzle is UNFAIR, I second that. I have tried for hours and am one of few left still not gotten the water fixed. I HAVE noticed that the second wheel in my 1st room turns off ANYTHING from happening in the 3rd room, but that is about it so far. And since routing the water is "random" for us all there is no main goal that I see except to make sure that water is flowing from room to room, but not welling up to the point of overflow in any one room?
And again, I complain, THIS IS LIKE A REALLY BAD MYST GAME!
And I used to love Myst. Because there was order and logic to it!
