Somehow or other, a piece of the secret lab map has turned up in my inventory and is now sitting in my SDB, waiting for me to decide what to do with it.

I used to have a complete set of the lab map on my previous account, thanks to someone donating most of the pieces to me, but I deleted the account for reasons I can't remember. Now I have a wish to set up an adoption agency sometime in the far-off future and I'm aware that the prices of the lab map go up a lot faster than my income does.

However, I also have a gallery I'm maintaining and the money I get from the lab map could go a fair way to getting some of the more expensive items I'd otherwise probably never get. (It may also help me towards my very slow, and probably never to be fulfilled, goal of getting the top bank account available.)

So: should I keep it and buy more pieces to set up that adoption agency (alternatively, I can wait for Lady Luck to dump all the pieces onto me), or should I sell it now and buy stuff for my gallery?

I'd say sell. I'm not a huge fan of the lab, although I do have it and use it daily, it's just... I dunno.

I'd save it until I was ready to sell it to buy something. When I started Neopets lab maps were about 10k per piece, now they're around 50k per piece.

Same. Save the piece, just so you don't have to pay a huge amount in the future.

And yes, I too remember how cheap the pieces used to be. Of course, back then, 10k was a LOT for a newbie like myself, so I didn't even think about getting the pieces. :/

Then again, I've saved all of the pieces I've gotten through random events, and so when I finally went and decided I wanted to use the Lab, I only had to buy two pieces (and the cost was fine by me, because I had two duplicates to sell).

When I was working on the packrat avvie, I got into the habit of sticking everything in my SDB instead of selling it immediately, and I was amazed at how fast the random event stuff accumulates. You may get most of the lab map before you know it, and it's true that the price only goes up. Or you can liquidate it if there's something specific you want to buy later.

It's really weird, but I got another piece yesterday. I must be having a streak of good luck at the moment!

Well, you could always give it to me...
But, seriously, leaving it in your S.D.B. can't do anything but help. It will A. get you a higher return in the future and / or B. help you prioritize on what you want to buy with the money (so you don't just burn the money away immediately).

Well.. are you more focused on the Adoption Agency or are you working towards another goal?

If it's adoption agency, save it.
If it's like a battledome weapon or w/e you are saving nps to buy, sell it.

I sell my random lab maps. But that's cause I don't have any intention to zap pets or anything like that.

Unless you've got a lot of pieces or are wanting to spend the money getting all of them, sell it. It can take years to get them all in random events, assuming you don't get the same pieces over and over. I've gotten some pieces 3 times before. Useful sometimes as you can sell/trade them to get pieces you don't have but generally these are far and few between events.

If you are going for the whole map then keep it of course!

However if you dont intend to get the whole map then hang on to it if you do not need the nps as the price of the pieces are rising.
