Well, I agree with some of your points (referring to everyone, but especially The_Wonder_Weezel's original post). There are a lot of small problems with the current Neopia map, but I don't think things need to be moved around so much. Though everyone seems to have their own ideas about where everything should go...Oh well. Here are mine!
- I like the poles. It's obvious to me that Terror Mountain is a mountain and not just an ice cap. If they moved it to the side, it would be too aesthetically displeasing (for me, at least). I also like the south pole, because it brings balance. I do not like the fact that there is nothing on it, though. I agree with whoever said they should make it smaller and maybe add something to do there.
- It would be nice if the Lost Desert and the Spooky Woods switched places, just for nit-picky enviromental reasons. I've always been a bit bothered by the deserts (Lost Desert and Tyrannia) being right next to the poles, though I do realize that Neopia doesn't conform to reality (that wouldn't be fun at all).
- Meridell and Brightvale would ideally be separated on the map, but still connected as they are now. I think the Darigan Citadel should remain on the Meridell map only, unless they're going to make it into something bigger. Same thing with Qasala and Sakhmet (though it'd be awesome if they were still connected via the Lost Desert; I'm lazy like that).
- Kreludor and the Space Station are fine as they are, though I wish they were updated a bit. At least they're saying they're going to update with more Kreludor stuff, though.
- There are also several uninhabited islands that could be used...hmm...But I'd rather see the other side of Neopia.
- Raargh. I hate the mini-worlds. Though they might as well stay for whoever likes them...meh. I do like Geraptiku, and would like to see more of it.
Yikes. That was a lot of blathering... ^^;;

Makuta_Neodude......
you're right... i totaly forgot! I cant believe my memory was that bad.... we thought Meridell had famine... Darigan was struck by the worst diseases, and only the orb helped it flourish.... so if the orb is destroyed (which is why darigan is still in its ugly state) why is meridell still all nifty? Oh well. Old plot
To many of you... I can see why some of you agreed with me reguarding polar ice caps. Dragonfire basically summed it up.
Dragonfire wrote:Neopia defies all laws of science, especially geography and physics, so it wouldn't matter if there was no southern ice cap.
My point i was trying to make exactly.
I'm so glad some of you agree with me about the mini worlds.
Im not necessarily 100% against them, but they need to be on the map, and be a location by itself, or not be considered a miniworld. Geraptiku is definetely not a mini world. Kiko Lake isnt a mini-world... its a little beach with a few houses. It could be clickable, but i dont see the purpose of making them official "mini worlds"....

The thing is, though, Neopia would be so ugly without the southern ice cap. Makuta made a picture of it earlier. It looks like a giant raindrop. I think they should make it non-icey, like a mountain in the desert. Think Albuquerque, or Mt. Kilimanjaro, or something. A mountain you could hike up and see things.

This thread has made for wonderful reading.
Most of you have had years of watching as TNT pieced and sync'd together what has become now a very 'real' place to enjoy. Anything built from the ground up, as with any design or work of art or fiction, has a life of its own. The ideas that TNT started with have probably evolved several times over in the past, and I venture to say, will continue to change with every new idea presented.
What was planned for this particular area next year, got bumped because someone had a great plot idea. Then got revamped as other suggestions poured in. Then after huge success of certain areas and other super ideas, was changed once again...still with no outward proof anyone at TNT is even thinking about it. (like the mountains behind the desert or the other pole)
While some might be a little bored with the conquered areas of Neopia, I'm still very new and am enjoying all the little hidden places to go and discover...even if I don't know what they mean or what they are intended to do. (not that any of you are actually bored, otherwise you probably wouldn't be a part of a forum dedicated to only Neopets...but you know what I mean, I just can't think of another word that fits better right now

)
Thanks for bringing up this thread and everyone's sharing!!

Okay throwing my two cents in.
Why in all of neopia is it wrong for the desert not to be at the equator? the Gobi desert isn't and the Sahara is north of the equator too. Even if there is no land there would be ice unless the fire and light faeries got together and decided to make a vaction spot that could have 23 hours of sunlight half the year (great for the beach) and for the othere half could be all night club-y and such like. I agree kiko lake needs to be put somewhere and maybe meridell could get a bit reorganized.

Ooh, you're right about the deserts. And that's a pretty good idea about the faeries enchanting some land to make it inhabitable or more fun.

I'd like to see the 'explore' map done like the NQII maps where you could actually walk your active pet around on the surface of neopia.
Neopia central, would be like the little towns and submaps in NQII, with all the shops and such. Theoretically your neohome or shop could have an actual representation on a map, maybe the same representation as 1000 other people - very much like the neopian marketplace, but from a birds eye view like NQII.
I don't know how many people use the explore map to navigate. A lot of people just bookmark their dailies or use a clickable list on a web page. All the games can(or should be) be gotten to by the gameroom page. It would be a cool way to introduce plots and new worlds and RE's and would make the world of neopia a larger part of the neopets website.

Actually deserts aren't on the equator; the equator is generally a tropical zone, flanked on either side by deserts. The great deserts of the world (as you mention) are almost never on the equatorial line.
See?
So technically neopias not too far off the 'real' world.
I think personally the reason that TNT made the world this way, was because most people would then recognize it more or less, as a world. And they would associate with it better then it being some completely alien world.

that would be pretty neat, but i don't like all the clicking in NQII. it would be bettter if you could just walk around with the arrow keys, and quickly. i don't like spending forever wandering around over repetitive terrain, but that's just me. also, to add to that, when you log out you should stay in the same place. like, if you go to mystery island, leave and come back, the Explore button should take you to Mystery Island. then, when you leave it could have you be right near the island enterance. WAY more interactive that way. finally, the character it shows should be you active pet.
EDIT: yay PPT, they fix'd the double post!

Meridell needs to be seperated. I remember way back when with the crack in the ice and that really annoyed me. Really, really.
Lost City of Geraptiku needs to merge with Mystery Island, or at least be near it. Roo Island and Kiko Lake need to go. Maybe move Deadly Dice to Haunted Woods. I don't know.
Why a link to Neopia Central on the map? I know it's good to know where you fit in but...
Something that has bugged me for aaages: why does shops link to Neopia Central? I mean if they're gonna include it on the map then it's a world and not a shopping complex. It does have the most shops but...
Virtupets needs a revamp, Terror Mountain to look more like a mountain, less of that green stuff around Meridell and Neopia Central.

ok as a statement the mountains between the haunted woods and the Lost desert do serve a purpous has anyone here heared of a little something called the rain shadow effect, well it's what creates deserts.
I totally agree with the whole move terror mountain...
the southern icecaps needs to shrink if only because, wow, it covers half of the southern hemisphere.
I would ramble more but I have no Idea what I was going to say

I agree with the whole separation/moving n thing, Neopets has got to come up with newer ideas, like I posted on another thread I really hope they come up with something creative for the other side, such as,
Western/Cowboy
Ancient China/Oriental
Roman/Greek (I'm thinking Altador is somewhat similar to this)
Urban/City (New York/Tokyo/Paris like, Designer NeoShops, maybe they can enable us the option to dress our neopets and stuff.)
Savannah/Aussie
Beach/Tropical/Sandy (It would actually give more sense to those pictures on the pet pages about going and playing in the sand >.<)
I dunno those are just a few...
And maybe they could shrink the southern pole a bit, as stated before it's ginormous, and I guess they could make into like a huge thundra like thing full of shops :3 Maybe even make it a residential area or something.

Quick response to the "Urban City" world - um... what's Neopia Central about? Okay, it's got more trees than some metropolis towns, but just because they managed it well so there are parks is no reason to get rid of it. However, It could be divided further (it's quite crowded) and have a much more urban looking area and some more foresty nice places - like the market and the wishing well being foresty and the bank and auction house being in a more metropolis feel place.
I definitely agree that the separation of the worlds would be useful - i.e. Meridell, Brightvale and Darigan Citadel should all be clickable directly from the explore map - But they should be right next to each other (not spread out) since they are all the medievally places.
As for the south pole - I think they should make it a frozen desert! It doesn't need a lot on it, but even just as a miniworld to make it semiuseful would be nice. (the extension of the lost desert being frozen would a. be a nice way to explain it and b. lend itself to a nice magical fight story.
As for miniworlds - I like them. They satisfy the need for a place to be a world without TNT having to expend too much energy on constructing it. Although, I also think that each miniworld should at least have a neopedia article since they probably won't have a whole plot dedicated to them. Accessing miniworlds I think should all be via the map - no links outside. I like the idea of them as filler that you can stumble across and go "cool! I found Roo Island!" or whatever. They help make the landscape richer and makes you feel spiffy when you find it. heh heh.
In regards to specifically Geraptiku, I think it's great having a miniworld inside a world!
Kiko lake would work well as a caldera in the lonely mountain northwest of Neopia Central.

hate those stupid ambigous miniworlds, so ya, they die now. or merge/expand now, but that sounds weird. however, i like the southern ice cap. it makes it more planet-like, and less like a collage of random themes stuck on a sphere. i mean, i like the themes, they really make Neopia, but it needs the caps to be...balanced, sorta. here's what i mean:

so, which is more planatoidish?
anyway, they could always take out the cap later. i mean, there is a lot of space wasted there...but i still think it makes it look better. anyway, the whole brightvale/darigan/meridell thing is screwed up. we definately need separate links. and overall, i like your thinking.

I agree. We cant ditch the icea cap, it makes it look like a planet. But think about our world. At the northern pole it is a sea, with ice floating on it. The couldmake the southern pole more of a walking across a glassier like is h style. In other words no mountains, just flat lots of ice

Although they have lots of shops, they do not have an urban or metropolis look at all! The only skyscraper USED to be the neolodge, but even that is all cottage-cozy now, like all the rest of the shops.

yes. my thoughts precisely. I like being in an area and finding that it has content, something a little different from everything else, but I think it's nice for TNT to not have to fill them in like entire worlds. Seriously... make kiko lake or roo island a whole world of their own? borrrrinnnnnggg... But, I feel like they should have just made KL and RI as sections of larger worlds, such as the different levels of terror mountain, the different areas of the lost desert, or the different sections of the haunted woods... I think Kiko Lake could be connected to maraqua, being similar enough, and roo island.... well, the port idea isn't half bad!
Another peeve of mine that I haven't seen in this thread, is that none of the altador shops have the link "back to altador", and similarly, that the lost desert shops in sakhmet take you back to the CENTER of the lost desert, instead of directly back to sakhmet.
