Hi Cranberry,
Well I bought a scuzzys comb. So when would I use this weapon?
Mon Mar 20, 2006 6:37 am
Good! That's a decent weapon. Try this:
First hit: scroll of freezing, downsize, kacheek smile
Second hit: water muffin, honey potion, berserk (should do at least 126 damage, leaving them with just 49 hit points)
Third hit: scuzzys comb, water muffin, burrow (they may be dead here)
Fourth hit: scuzzys comb, fire muffin*, sink (OR thick smoke bomb, if you could die)
*Here you could go for another water muffin if you like, but you probably won't need its 15 icons (and it costs 10k+). Fire muffin does 12 icons and it costs less than 2k -- great buy.
So all you need to buy is two water muffins, one fire muffin, and one thick smoke bomb (which you may not even need). Still kind of expensive, but like I said, you may not even need a couple of those and you could resell or save them for another important battle. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Well I fought the Henchmen and after the first three hits, when I went to pick the last weapons, where I should have been able to choose the method of attack, it was just blank. Why would this happen? Is this because he froze me also. (Lost my scroll of freezing too)

Ah, yes. One of their weapons has a chance at freezing you, and you have to hope they don't for most strategies to work. If you try again and they freeze you again, withdraw (visit the battledome status page), heal your pet (you can fight inflatable balthazar to heal; he won't hurt you) and then try again. That way you won't get the loss. How many hit points did they (and you) have left on that turn?
Mon Mar 20, 2006 9:39 pm
Well, it worked that time. Had 111 hps left at the end. Thanks so much, got a new av too. That makes 217 avs.

Yay! Congrats. Glad the strategy worked out for you.

You will not be able to beat the Meerca Bros. with the 55 boost unless you go the one-use route and freeze them, pummel them with expensive water muffins, and use thick smoke bomb to keep them from hurting you -- your weapon set just isn't good enough. Train to strength 85 before attempting them.

Also, trade that dark reflectorb in for an ultra dark reflectorb (reflects 50% of dark instead of 25%) and trade the lesser healing scroll for a greater healing scroll (heals 50 HP). Neither of those upgrades costs much more at all.
Do you have any kind of budget for improving your weapon set? Even a stone club (currently at or under 100k) would help you a lot.

Anybody with the 85 boost can beat these guys with some one-use bombs, a one-use freezer, a one-use thick smoke bomb for defence, and maybe a one-use healer like lucky robots foot. But that just seems kinda pointless to me. Are you (and this is a general "you," not directed at any one person) doing this just for the avatar, or do you actually like battling and want to move on and upgrade your DoN trophy some more? Because if it's the latter, it's past time to start investing in some real weapons instead of wasting your NP on stupid one-use items. There are a nice number of 9 and 10-icon weapons out there for less than 600k each (some are as cheap as 100k, or even 90k in the case of the EFS):
Earth Faerie Slingshot (7-9 icons)
Stone Club (9)
Pike Pike (9)
Psellias Fighting Fan (9)
Essence of Esophagor (10)
Scuzzys Comb (10)
Ramtors Spellbook (10)
And of course every battler should have Downsize! and some kind of healer -- even the cheap Greater Healing Scroll, which heals 50 HP, is great for people with 100 or even 150 HP. And of course every lower-level battler needs a freezer (Snowglobe Staff or Black Frost Cannon) and a bomb -- Honey Potion is cheap(ish) right now.
It's not super-cheap to be a BDer -- most people's sets are at LEAST a couple million, and anyone who's really serious about it will spend much more than that. But it beats throwing NP away on one-use items every time there's a new BD avatar. Those things add up.
Scroll of Freezing: 76k
Thick Smoke Bomb: 10k
Lucky Robots Foot: 8k
Water Muffin: 15k
Ornate Fighting Fan: 14k
Seriously, you can buy some water muffins that are gone forever as soon as you throw them, or you can buy a Stone Club/Psellias Fighting Fan combo that you can use over and over forever. Which sounds better to you?
