Well, I'm not completely sure it's a collectible. It would have helped if they were selling on eBay with tons of people bidding wildly on them. This might just be two bookstores with crazy pricing.
Maybe you can write a letter to the Beckett people or whoever it is that publishes those Neopets price guides and ask them about this.
By the way, a different cover might indicate that you just have a different edition or printing. Usually, when collecting books, the lower the edition or printing the better (with the first edition or first printing being best, of course). You'll find the edition or printing number in the first couple of pages of the book.
Edit: Oops, I must correct myself. I assumed Borders's results would be the same as Amazon's since they seem to share the site, but I was wrong. At the time of this correction, Borders online had exactly 2 copies left at the cover price of $9.95.
