I dunno, I don't see the big deal. They caused like, HUGE price inflation on certain items and craziness. They're cute and all, but I just think they're kinda... pointless? I mean, not that I'm bashing you if you like them! :] But I just don't see why everyone goes crazy to get little animations, hehe.

It's just one more thing for people to collect. Technically, everything on neopets is pretty pointless. Why spend so much to paint your pets? Why train your pets and buy expensive battledome items so your pet can beat higher opponents? Why collect stamps? Why bother doing the freebies? Why play any games at all? Why earn neopoints if they're actually worth nothing at all?

Neopets is a fun thing for people to do in their spare time, including collecting avatars. Like all games, the only point is entertainment.

They're another statistic for your user lookup, everyone loves the statistics.

I like collecting them for status. Someong with more avs looks like a more experienced player then someone with a little, IMO.

I only use the ruki av, because I love ruki. I dont even show them off, but I still like collecting them.

I'm big into avatars (265, and counting! :P) and, for me, they're a great way of finding other people on Neopets, they're a hobby, without which I would have quit now due to lack of interest. They give me a 'personality' on the boards, and yes, are also a status symbol. They define people, they're a little bit of 'you'.

Also, they give me practise for games, and allow me to learn new skills on Neopets (I had to get into restocking for the Chocolate avatar, for example), and new things. I would never have touched Neoquest, one or two, without avatars in them, but am in love with both games.

They also give me a sense of pride when I get a rare one, like I've done something. So, Neopets, to me, are a great way of discovering new things, and new people.

You've definitely done something when you receive your Lever of Doom avatar :D

I collected avatars when they first came out because I was just wasting time after I did my dailies. After a while some of them got too hard to get and I was paranoid of cookie grabbers so I stopped. I also don't want some avatars, like the dung one for example. I think it should be optional if you want to show how many avatars you've collected. Not that I'm really into collecting them but still, only 80 looks kind of lame.

My thoughts exactly. 8)

I collect them for the sheer reason that, y'know, I can. o_o They are there to collect, so why not? As long as they don't cost a million and half NP to obtain, I'm all for them.

They are fun to collect simply because they are, not everyone has them, because you have to do something to get them. :D

wah, did you really spend that much on the lever of doom?
i pretty much do it once or twice a day for the past... oh i don't know, three weeks... i guess that's about 3k.

i don't even HAVE 300k... i hope it refreshes faster for me. anyone have a word of encouragement? is it random or is it connected to how much you have "invested"?
