The constellation finders keep going down. free hosts allow limitted bandwidth... I do wish the moderators would keep the header post up to date.

Atrus has put up another iteration of the constellation finder

astrolabe and badge

the astrolabe is a navigator's tool. Perhaps we will find a navigatable sea route from altador to the neopian mainland... or known islands. Sort of reverse of finding the "new" world... we would help the altadorians find "old" neopia

Ya know, we can't tend to the forum 24/7. I've tried my best to keep it updated. I've reiterated the fact many times in the last thread and as well as the fact Atrus has posted about it. I believe Atrus IM'd me (or someone did) but I was swamped with work, so even though I did poke in and out throughout the night, I sorta forgot about it.

I don't expect everyone to read all the past threads, but I DO expect before posting people have read at least the last thread to get the gyst of things.

you are absolutely right....

Hmm well in one of the Neopian Times someone asked if TNT has any problems with people helping other people finding constellations. TNT said no... wait let me go get the artical.

Hah found it:
Hi, there's been a bit of debate about this on the boards recently, so I wanted to ask you what you think. For the plot, a lot of people have been searching for the you-know-what, and just can't find it, so they seek help on the boards. Another person looks at their -thing- and gives them a hint or a co-ordinate to help them find said thing. Now, do you think this is fair or unfair? Personally I think it's perfectly fine if the person is willing to help, and if the other person has genuinely looked. What do you say? ~ werewolfhunter888
People are free to help each other if they wish. Whether someone has looked all over and just can't spot it, or are just plain lazy, it's up to those helping to decide whether or not they will aid them. This however does not cross over to standard competitions like Lenny Conundrum and Mystery Pic because that is what they are - competitions.

So...my point *deep breath* the star finders (mine and stodder's) I believe falls into the top category which mean that the theory that neopets shuts them down is a bit wild o_O

I think that the next consetlation will be Fauna

because in Janitor talk, he says its soothing and fauna is always seen petting and nurturing petpets, just a hunch, or uncontrolable rage = gladiator. im not really sure.

DarkFire i love your star mapper :)

Could it be "OMG, peaking bandwidth!" or CPU usage, perhaps? My script is host on a VPS, where I have plenty of resources allocated to me, so I'm not worried about getting shut down due to load; the server will just get sluggish with over 1000 hits per minute, I think. I'm confident in the effeciency of my code, so I'm not terribly interested in yours :p Right now I'm getting about 5-8 hits per minute.

The spare time I have to poke at this stuff is mostly going into a script that mines constellations from sets of star coordinates. The initial version started with about 35,000 hits for me to look at. It's now down to 500, and I think the next improvement will get it down to a number I'll actually want to look at. This is a clique problem, but the graph is pretty small, especially after trimming.

My current plan is to create a super-website dedicated to this plot. It will have all the resources needed to solve your plot and I'll keep an updated guide. I have over 1tb monthly bandwidth to waste.
Edit:Hrm...I've activated fast cgi on my domain and it still isn't working
Now there seems to be an error with the script...

Sat Apr 08, 2006 10:59 pm

ok I have yet another wild theory.

It just is tacked onto my last theory see the astrolobe will be a super attack item the astronomy club member badge will be a super defense item and when we finally battle the "janitor" or if you choose the janitors side king altador we ha ve to use them to defeat our enemy!

Sat Apr 08, 2006 11:02 pm

Yeah about the site's bandwidth being exceeded. My site has alot of bandwidth to spare so if someone would be willing to let me use their code I could easily put up. That way another page would be up for people to use. Just an idea.

While I've pondered the possibility of the Astrolabe helping with finding constallations, I have a hard time believing it. Anything that makes finding constallations seems unbelievable to me. It might be like the useless crystal, and needs to be placed in a certain location. In any case, I don't think its purpose will be learned before at least Tuesday.

In other news, I'm not sure if people have counted the gems above each statue (which was probably done) and I just did so to test a theory which is now debunked. Can someone confirm that my count matches up with someone else's?

Stars above statue:
Sleeper:19
Dreamer:20
First To Rise:21
Farmer:19
Dancer:19
Wave:22
~~~
Protector:23
Thief:22
Gladiator:18
Collector:17
Gatherer:16
Hunter:20
Oh, and I noticed that behind the collector is another way to the observatory.
>_>
That information did used to be in the first post, but was dropped due to being irrelivant...anyway...
The gems above the statues are the same for everybody.
Yeah, I'm behind in terms of the thread. I know. I also knew it wasn't especially revelent. Just checking that I had the right count. (Thought it might be a hint to the order or something.)
