no the farmer had nothing to do with a barn so it's superfolus that he says that, and if he were giving hints what was next than how do you explain the past qoutes.

Only cause you're pretty. DuBer had it posted in split 32.
Janitor quotes --

Before finding the Sleeper:

"Argh! Now it's light, and I'll have to go back to mopping instead of guarding this button! Curse you!" But you think he means "curse you" in a friendly way.

The janitor says, "Hm, so you joined an Astronomy Club, eh? That sounds like fun. I wish I had the time to join a club."

After finding the Sleeper:

The janitor shouts at you, "HEY! Stop leaving the lights on in the observatory! It's wasteful! I CAN'T STAND WASTEFULNESS!! RAAARGHH!!"

After finding the Dreamer:

The janitor says, "Those lights above each statue sure are pretty when they light up. I wonder what they mean?" He shakes his head. "Oh well, too much cleaning to do, no time to figure it out."

After finding the First to Rise:

The janitor shouts, "HEY! What's the big idea putting your grubby hands all over the windowsill?! I have to clean those things, you know! Were you raised in a barn?!"

After finding the Farmer:

The janitor says, "It sure is interesting watching those lights on the ceiling light up. What are you getting up to in that observatory, anyway?"

Ok....but does anyone think its strange that he says "raised in a barn" and the next constellation is the farmer?

yep...thats why everybody argues what the next constellation will be based on his quote.

Daaww... :battar: You so sweet!

I looked over those quotes, and honestly, the only hints I saw were for the farmer and dancer. The others were too vague, unless anyone can point them out to me.

I was going to agree with shades of grey, because prior to the farmer none of the quotes seemed relevant. However, the quote you got after the farmer about "lights in the ceiling" fits perfectly with clicking the light in the disco dancing club picture, so I'm going to withold judgement on that for now. Maybe they just picked up on it with the farmer and will continue now.

On the other hand, apparently someone posted an order based on a theory I don't know that's held perfectly for now, and predicts the wave to be next. I can think of little in the current quote...
Janitor wrote:The janitor shouts, "My favorite underground dance club got closed down by that stinkin' Archivist! GRAARGH, THAT MAKES ME SO ANGRY!!!" He hurls his mop to the floor and stamps his feet.

...that seems to have anything to do to do with the Wave.

However, it's of course probable they're again refering to where to find the next clue, not to the next constellation itself. I'd say keep your eyes open for mops and buckets.

No, you are right. The clues are extremely vague, so how anyone predicted the first 3 constellations from what he said is beyond me.

And honestly, even the clue for the Dancer is a bit of a stretch. Especially considering that most people thought the "clue" was pointing towards the Thief.

Edit:

Forgot about the "lights in the ceiling" comment with the Dancer, which makes sense. But only in hindsight.

Oooh, oooh! I know how it relates to the Wave!

When he throws his mop down it causes small ripples in the puddle of water he was mopping. Right?

Ripples are like little waves.

Yay! So there we have it.

Okay, sarcasm really doesn't work for me.

I'll just stick with my story that I'll believe the Janitor is of vital importance when he actually says something useful (after all, he did say he was only there to guard the button).

I can make them fit, but that's only with hindsight. Maybe I refuse to consider him helpful after the repository debacle.

And again, I was just reposting DuBer's post, they're not mine. I just read back through some threads and copied it. I don't want to take credit that isn't mine.

I am too tired to list all the little things I could point out in the Janitor's clues, but I noticed that starting from the first "curse you in a friendly way" may refer to the Dark Faerie's curse, etc. Besides, any housewife knows, if you throw a mop like that down, and stomp your feet you are going to create little puddles of *waves* on the floor. ;) But it is anyone's guess (unless there really was an order nicely laid out in the flash file).

Fri Apr 07, 2006 4:43 am

Over thinking or not put aside .. maybe TNT realized with the first 2 janitor clues they were making them too hard?

Fri Apr 07, 2006 4:44 am

There really is an order laid out nicely in the flash file. It's worked perfectly so far, and yes, the wave is next. The janitor thing? In my opinion, rubbish. ;)

Fri Apr 07, 2006 4:47 am

The janitor could very well be giving clues, but since his clues seem to exactly match the order gotten from the flash file, what does it matter? Tomorrow I'll look for something wave related, Monday I'll look for whatever is next. We can only go as fast as TNT will let us so I don't understand what all the fuss is about.

I don't know....you can't say there isn't something to it.
But why is he angry with the archivist? What did the archivist do to him? Just because the sign is gone....not necessarily the archivist's fault, now is it??

I agree that the flash file eliminates the need to find TNT clues. But I am sure there are clues to be found and the Janitor looks like the best bet.

My consern is missing part of the plot points (like the false prophesy in LDP) because we are not using the clues.

I can't imagine finding the flash file was TNT's intention.

If you're talking about the overlay order, I wouldn't exactly say that it is a theory per se. Sure, like a good theory, it does make predictions which can be observed, and the theory can thus be validated. However, since the order is gotten from looking into the source code, I liken it more to reading Cliff Notes and then giving you an overview of the story. It's a little like cheating, if not blatantly so. This is why I refer to it as a "theory" in quotes. However, there is a weakness to the overlay order and that is the Flash file (of the telescope) from which it is derived cannot be said to be set in stone. Neopets can alter the telescope applet at any time to change the order around from the original. One would hope that Neopets had a plan set for this plot and that the plan is too involved to make any sudden alterations, but the irony is that, the more popular the overlay order "theory" becomes, the more enticing it could be for Neopets to make such a change for a little surprise and to show all the reverse-engineering wiseguys who's still the boss (though the wiseguys would probably then reverse-engineer the new version telescope for the new order, etc., etc. to create the usual neverending cycle of programmers versus "reverse programmers"...one of the few ways for Neopets not to tip its hand would be to introduce a different version of the telescope applet each time the plot progresses, with the applet code covering only up to that point, but that would be more work for them).

Not neccesarily they already have the "stellar drift" to prevent people from finding the constellations before they're released.

We're only talking about discovering the order of the constellations. Finding the constellations has too many server-side components. For example, unless it has been registered with the server that you have completed such-and-such a task and clicked on so-and-so a link, you can click on or automatically submit all the proper stars you want, but the server will still reject them. There's still no substitute for playing the game.
