I got a neofriend request and a neomail soon followed that said
lol, you're my new boyfriend
I replied back asking who they were and did they know I had been happily married for over 2 years.
She never replied back

I get requests from a lot of newly-created accounts. Not sure how these people find me. I refuse requests from accounts that are less than a month old, and if they're older than that, I at least take a look. If the lookup is nice and everything seems to be in order, I'll either accept or neomail them.
I check my NF list every now and then as well. I look for frozen accounts and delete them off the list. I also check how long it's been since my NFs have been online. If it's 90+ days and I can't remember how I know them, they're gone. For people that I really liked or knew well, I'll wait longer.
I once accepted every NF request I got. Then I started getting people trying to scam or beg. That got annoying REAL fast. >.<

I'm 4 and a 1/2 years, I don't usually get neofriend requests unless I put up a trade.. because of Christmas presents up in the tp, I've had about 10 neofriend requests.

I don't attract attention to myself. So I don't get NF requests. *Shrugs*

I was just a bit worried you know, cos I've been reading so many stories about scammers and hackers. Not that I have that much to steal, just a bunch of chocolate

I feel the same way, I am afraid of hackers and such, Maybe it would be a good idea if we set up a post to have anyone from here that wants a Neofriend to post there. I would feel much more safe having a friend from here than someone I don't know.

Ya I have that problem sometimes. People see an old account and think "Oooh they're rich." I get what feels like hundreds of people asking me for give aways.

I don't accept friend requests from people I haven't spoken with ahead of time.
I think it's creepy to friend strangers.

I generally like to keep to myself on Neopets so that kind of stuff is generally awkward for me. Then for Jhudora day, I decided to enter the art contest just to see if I could get another trophy in my empty case. I had my inbox flooded with questions, comments and invitations. At first I answered each and every email, but then it got out of hand and I couldn't keep up. I felt guilty for not answering everyone, but I realized most of them only mailed me because I was on the front page. My point is, some people horde neofriends like others go for the packrat avatar. Being denied, ignored or forgotten once or twice wont destroy their morale.

Kess, I don't like the nasty little notes in userlookups, either. But I also don't like random requests... so I just turned the neofriend requests off. If I want to add someone (if they ask me in neomail, or if we've been talking for a while), I'll send them the request myself. I'd imagine that if I did have them on, I'd end up with a lot, because I'm often pretty high up in the Volcano Run high score tables, and I'm second, I think, at Lenny Conundrum (the amount of neomails I get begging for hints/answers is bad enough -- I've only won gold four times, people; I don't get it every single week!).
I don't understand the obsession with having lots of neofriends, anyway. No one can see your list but you...

Well I feel like a right loser now! I never get anything from anyone! Although I've had a few battle requests from newbies, and I never did work out where they got me from!
I guess I just keep to myself in neopets. I've only ever been on a trophy board for Invasion of Meridell and that's not exactly high-brow and flashy
