It's the third time I got the alternate map on telescope, but still no way to get the datas :x :x :x :x I'm starting to get really frustrated and it's not pretty!!!!

I haven't been there for the last five hours (it's amazing how many people can post in a few hours) and my last questions got lost in conversation.

1- As anybody tought of comparing two people skys, who found their oil behind the same statue or any other link we can think of, to see if there's ANY ressemblance? I think that if there's even one identical star between two persons, it could be a BIG clue (at least for those two persons ;) )

2-Can someone explain me how to "repeatedly take screenies of the different views, moved over little by little, and then compile an image." theonlysaneone recomanded me to do so five pages ago as I have the second telescope view, but not the datas (grrrrrr...). I could at least start again to gaze at a new horizon (how poetic......)

I'm sorry, it seems to me that my english is deteriorate, it's not my first language and i'm to tired to think (and I love brackets far to much)

And I'm now going to BED, something I haven't done for to long!!

since elric's theory is that the constellation is matching stars on both sets of data, the easiest is to check the data1 for view 1 and 2 for matching coordinates. Then map the matches into a constelation.

I must admit, this all seems a bit stretched. I think cranberry is on the right track... but then, I can't seem to get a second set... yes my browser is set up correctly.

Oh, yeah I got the alternate map off that server, too. That would be a releif if that was the case, just a bug.

Yeah, I'd say if our "alternate maps" are just coming from one server, instead of at a specific time, it definitely looks like a bug and not an intentional setup. And I do know there is at least one messed-up server at Neopets... there have been blank pages and sidebar clocks with the wrong time and stuff like that happening lately.

Cranberry -- That would explain a LOT. :P And please keep us posted.
If so, we should all get extra plot points for staying up until 3-4 AM all starry-eyed. ;)

EDIT: manatemuse, Yes but the data is not entirely the same as the star coordinates, somehow. I mean you can make the map visually in Flash, but the Telescope view is warped in a sense, so I am checking manually.

It will be very frustrating, if it's confirmed that it's only a bug, that we lost the last 24 hours ( at least in my case) trying to find some bugged coordinates.......

I'll see that tomorow (I suppose people will have settle thing by that time) but, at least, I want to thank you much cranberry because I have achived what I've been trying to do, getting my second sky data, and I dont care a damn now if it's real or not

I am quite sure that is why they added the Zoom feature to their toolbar. :roflol:

When you get the "alternate map" in your telescope, immediately stop what you are doing and go to your browser cache or, if you're using Internet Explorer, your Temporary Internet Files folder. Sort the files in the folder by their date-time and look at the most recent files. You only have to look inside the HTML (.htm) files. You can drag and drop the files into notepad or a web browser (I recommend notepad). One of the latest HTML (.htm) files will contain the coordinates data that the telescope is using.

This is even easier with Internet Explorer because the Temporary Internet Files folder can be sorted by Last Accessed and actually displays the Internet Address that served you the file which would be that URL with the "stardata=1".

I got that server and I had my first map. Also some said that the sky rotates but my sky hasn't.

Or just do a view: source, because it's in there, as well. If it is server 74, just doing a search for "74" will find it. Otherwise, "sjo" probably will.

thanks, it could have been a lot of help, I wish I had that procedure 24 hours ago!!! But it came just to late, I have got my coordinates from the supposedly bugged server 74, the link cranberry displayed on last page. But I still gives you credit for giving me something that could have finally worked too, and, as I said, I will see tomorow if they are of an use or not!

and I NEED to get some sleep and stop comming back to this (*%$%&& computer!!!!

Okay, so that's what, three or four of us who have now gotten the "alternate" map from server 74? Definitely looks like a bug to me. Maybe 74 accidentally sends us someone else's data, while all the other servers have the proper data. I'm sure snarkie or dirtside will look into it tomorrow morning and let us know, anyway.

I'm on server 74 right now and it's exactly the same as before or someone else has the same starting stars as me.

Another thing I'm wondering is: is it necessary to have the correct lines, or is simply having the correct stars enough?

Because I have been trying 'close' constellations without the lines, and I may have passed over a correct constellation by not trying the 500+ permutations of ways you can connect anywhere from 1 to 15 lines between any six stars. That is a silly number of possible combinations and I hope they didn't take that into account when they determined wether or not you can find the constellations.

Well, what I'm wondering right now is whether everyone's map contains all 12 constellations or if everyone's only supposed to find one. If everyone is supposed to find all 12 in their maps and assuming constellations don't overlap each other, then there should be constellations everywhere because the maps really aren't that large. If everyone is supposed to only find one assigned constellation (after all, it's supposed to be an astronomy club, so shouldn't there be some sharing of findings and knowledge?), then perhaps people who have been assigned the same constellation might just have the same maps after all and that the reason it seems like everyone has a different map is because there are 12 (or some multiple of 12) different ones. The other reason I don't believe 100% that everyone has a truly unique map is because that would make the program for checking the answers very complicated to write, so I doubt they did that, especially for a minor plot - but who knows?

Okay, let's test out this latter theory. I found my oil and rag behind Kelland the Thief. My coordinates file starts with (-100, -12, 1) and ends with (98, -266, 1). Anyone have the same?
