On another note i got an alternate map(finally) but it's completely empty and the extreme only goes to 250 -250 either way.

Yea, I get that. And please don't think my last post was directed at you, because it wasn't (it wasn't directed at anyone in particular - I mean, I don't hold 6 split grudges).

I just thought a nice, simple, rational explation was needed. Maybe the mods could link to it to explain the crosshair situation? I dunno. LoL.

oh i wrote the apology before you said that.

Try (according to Dark's coords)

-514, 285
-472, 307
-416, 267
-466, 252
-495, 71
-360, 316

Elric the insanely smart ... what do those number mean? I don't have any of those coordinates.

I am still trying to get the second star map :x

LoL. Well, fair enough, but I'll stand by my apology to you anyway.

mkay.... the weirdest part of my second map was that it wouldn't move after the first click.

I have come to think that TNT has given us time to map our stars.

Oh, those numbers make sense only to anjuna's map because I used her data. I tried to PM them to her, but she didn't get them, so I posted them. Don't worry about them, though.

Ah, ok thanks! I think we're all to the point of grasping at any straw at the moment.

Still slowly refreshing for that second map. I'm really beginning to wonder why I'm even trying to do this.

Hmm, Elric, I can't seem to find the coordinates in my star_data but I am trying to check manually as well, since I could be missing something.

To all others, the coordinates in the Telescope only "show" up to +-340 but if you wave your pointer over individual stars within that the numbers go much higher. I guess they are dome-shaped coordinates or something.

Having said this I will try harder but it is my bedtime. If I find anything I will post, of course. Good luck in the meantime to all. And thanks, again, personally to Elric. I will use this information the best that I can. Did you gather this raw data somehow or already "see" a constellation in my map(s)? If the latter, perhaps you can post/e-mail me a pic with a drawing?

Heh...don't thank me until you get a successful constellation.

I got them from Dark's thingy, so put your second set into the thingy and go from there, it's much easier to spot that way.

So are those 6 stars in (one of) ajuna's constellations? Would everyone's have the same shape?

Ok, since I've got to head to bed, let me tell you guys what my theory is so you can try it out yourselves.

THIS IS ONLY A THEORY (for now).

Take each set and put them in Dark's thingy. Print screen them onto paint, making 2 copies of each. White out the stars of one of each of the copies, then put them over the alternate one (set 1 on top of 2, set 2 on top of 1). You should see stars that come through the "holes" that are on both of the pairs.

I saw the Wave on An's, so those are the coords I gave her.

I'm guessing that the stars have to be added during the time that the set 2 stars are up, since it's only a limited time, from what I can gather.

I hope I didn't lose anyone with that theory :)

I'm thinking that if there's a constellation there - even if everyone's got a different one - the individual maps will at least have some stars with the same distances between them. So if you could go through 2-3 dozen different people's maps, eventually you'd get two with the same constellation. Since we have the co-ordinates, we can calculate the distances. So with a bit of programming skill, you could pretty much brute force it - compare the distances for every star from every other. Any group of 4 stars with the same relationships on different maps is likely part of a constellation.

The procedure would be something like:
Read the co-ordinates into two arrays for players one and 2.
Calculate the distance between two points using the pythagorean theorem:
distance=square root of ((X1-X2)^2+(Y1-Y2)^2)
For player one, save all the distances from the first point into an array. Do the same for player 2.
Now compare; if any two stars have the same distance save the points and continue looking for a third.
Otherwise, move on to calculating the distances from the second point for player 2.
After checking against every point for player 2, if you have found 3 or more stars with matching disatances, output the co-ordinates as a potential constellation (after checking for duplicates).
Move on calculating the distances for the next point for player1.

Since Dark already has people putting their co-ordinates in to be plotted; I bet he could collect a small database of maps. You would be able to pretty quickly figure out what actual constellations are there (if any).

I really think it's just one bad server spitting out info. I refreshed a few times at my flash telescope, and servers 203, 211, 139, 120, and 229 all loaded my normal old map. Then server 74 gave me a totally different looking 0,0 field. However, when I went to the star_data page, I got my normal old coordinates (which when plugged into darkfire's awesome mapper gave my normal map). I imagine my flash telescope and the star_data loaded from different servers, so it could be just 74 that's messed up. If people could keep track of which server loads their "second map," it would be great...

ETA: I just tried getting my star data through http://www74.neopets.com/altador/astro. ... tar_data=1 and voila, weird new map. I think just server 74 is screwed up for me. It does not produce an alternate map for my friend, though.

Location: It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a Grue.
How do you determine which server you're getting your data from?
Is it this thing at the end of the source code?
"host - www175.sjo.neopets.com"

Oh, yeah I got the alternate map off that server, too. That would be a releif if that was the case, just a bug.

Kess, at the bottom of the screen, when the telescope is loading ("setting up telescope"), it should tell you which server it's loading from. I just refreshed, keeping track of the servers, until I got different starting stars.

I will ask snarkie or dirtside if this is a bug tomorrow.
