I don't want him to die because I hate him. I rather like him, I want him to die because I think that it would work for the series. I don't want a super happy ending. I want Voldemort to be defeated, but I don't want Harry to live through it. It often works in stories for the hero to die to save the world, a sacrifice.
The prophecy stated:
"...And either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives..."
That doesn't mean that they can't both die.
At the very least, maybe Harry will be permanantly damaged from the fight and end up in St. Mungo's.
Although seeing him get hit by a Greyhound bus is very tempting... I have quite a fascination with people getting hit by busses.
(I have a great uncle that died because he got hit by a Greyhound bus, and I myself would prefer to be hit by one and killed rather than die slowly of old age or disease)

This is what I see happening. He beats The dark lord and he teaches defance against the dark arts. There has to be a reason they keep pressing the fact that no one stays at that jopb and what a great person to do it then the person that brought down the Dark lord?:)

I am hoping that the Half-Blood Prince is Hagrid. Hagrid is half human and half giant (although how his parents pulled that one off . . . ). Whenever Hagrid is mentioned, it's in bits and pieces. His mother was a very important Giant who is now missing. In the last book, Dumbledore keeps mentioning how important it will be to have the Giants on their side. Hagrid was also one of the main characters in CoS. Remember that Hagrid was the person originally blamed for releasing the monster on the students (even though that was all wrong)? I'm not sure if I'm getting the books mixed or not, but wasn't Hagrid sent to Azkaban for a short term in CoS? Hagrid also can use magic, but he is not allowed to because of the incident with Tom Riddle and the mysterious monster.

Did Dumbledore keep Hagrid on the grounds and give him a job just out of kindness or because he knew his potential? I can not remember for every teacher, but it seems that Dumbledore likes to keep people around for a purpose. The main teachers you meet in the first book helped to protect the Sorcerer's Stone in one way or another. Others are members of the Order of the Pheonix. Snape was a spy because of his ties with the death-eaters. Professor Trelawney was the one who told the original prophecy about Harry and Voldemort. I'm sure there's more to Firenze's appointment than just his clan booted him. Where's Hagrid's big purpose? It could be that he's the tie between the Giants and wizards, but I think there's more to it than that.

On a side note:
The spell that hit Sirius was just a Stun spell. He was stunned and tripped when he was knocked backwards, therefore falling through the veil.

About Kreacher:
Maybe Dumbledore employs him at Hogwarts, since that's where homeless house elves seem to be flocking. There he can keep an eye on him as well. Kreacher knows too much about the Black family and the Order of the Pheonix to be allowed to live anyone else.

I'm really looking forward to this book, I think its going to be really good. Are there any aprox. release dates yet (I wouldn't have though so but its always worth asking)?

Just because he keeps him around dont mean hes the "one". Look at fultch the sqwib he keeps him around and he knows nohting about magic.

Don't you remember in the 2nd book, where Dobby gave harry the warning, and stated that it wasn't voldemort. And it turned out to be Tom Riddle?

People can like the harry potter series of books but not necessarily like harry potter. There's a subtle line....

Are you talking about the books or the film tho? coz i'd be quite happy for daniel radcliffe to die (as harry, i'm not quite that morbid!) but even tho i know it wouldn't be a bad way for the series of books to end, i'd still be sad to see harry die.

Although, we know that jk rowling has said that there won't be any way of continuing the books after the 7th, but we dont know for CERTAIN that he's gonna die do we?

He won't be teaching. JKR's told us that no, he will not become a Professor/teacher. Though I do think it'd be interesting if he did. If he lives, of course.

Well who knows how she will go because her mind isnt even on writing right now and might not remember telling pople that. She is over in another country worried about how they treat nuts. I just read tha in the paper and now I know why it is taking so long to write this book.

Um, just because she wanted cage beds in boarding homes removed in the Czech Republic doesn't mean she isn't working on the book. lol It's not taking up her whole day.

And believe me, she'll remember what she says. She had the whole series planned out before she even began to write the first book. JK has a very good memory.

Calling mental patients nuts isn't really polite, is it?

Filtch knows a lot about magic, he just can't use it himself because he's a squib (at least so far). Also, who says she has told us everything about Filtch? There is probably more to him as well. If everything was laid out in the first book, the rest would be a boring read.
