I'm trying desperately to beat the Meerca Henchmen, but every time they freeze me the first round in. On top of that, my rainbow frost cannon never freezes them. Does anyone have any advice? Maybe my stats aren't high enough; Agility : 40 (EXCELLENT (40))
Attack Strength : 88 (AMAZING (88))
Defence Strength : 41 (EXCELLENT (41))
Current hp: 180 / 180
Level : 58

I started a topic on this awhile back... it should be a little farther down the page.

Ok i love battling and a while ago I got keyloged and lost just about all my stuff and my pet. So im rebuilding slowly. I have about 150k to spend on whatever will help me maximise my battling. My stats, abilities, and weapons are as follows:

Stats:
Species : Koi
Colour : Grey

Level : 18
Health : 22 / 22
Strength : GREAT (35)
Defence : GREAT (27)
Move : GREAT (22)

Weapons:
Scarab Ring
Lesser Healing Scroll
Obsidian Dagger X2
Patched Magic Hat

Skills:
Burrow is the only useful one i have.

I zapped my pet this species and color and would like to keep it that way for a while. I have a fountain pass saved from like a year ago so im going to use that and probably transmog to a different species when i get tired of this color.

Im training at mystery island because its alot faster. I got my strength to 35 and now im working on my defence then my HP. Ill then just go one into level and two into everything else to keep them even. Im debating weather to do agility because of the few items that are realy good and need it. Would it be worth it? it would probably be cheeper to get the 200 or whatever agility than go buy a 100% steeler if there even is one. (its been a while since ive played so i forgot some stuff :P )

So anyways what I need is advice on what to do with my weapons like what to keep and what to change and also what i should train. Thanks for the help. :D

EDIT

Sorry I forgot to add that im playing neoquest II and im in the haunted woods of evil. So hopefully I will get something out of that within a week or two.

I've just returned after my 3 year hiatus so don't be surprised by my battle set :P Anyway, I only go for 1-player battles. My budget is currently irrelevant. I just need a decent battle set, don't make it too godly, this is just to set my target. Basically, I'm broke after my regrettable action of giving away NPs as well as weapons and armors. Here are the relevant stats:

Name: I_am_843
Species : Kougra
Level : 94
Max Health : 186
Strength : ULTIMATE (187)
Defence : LEGENDARY (130)
Move : AWESOME (65)

Current set:
Hand Painted Scarab
Leaf Shield
Downsize!
0:)

Abilities: I have all, but advice to changes is welcome
Steam Shield
Sink
Burrow
Boil
Drain Life
Quench
Diamond Dust

On a sidenote, people say Hypno Helmet has been transformed. Is this true? If so, what's the difference between that and the transformed version, as well as the price?

Last question. I can't remember but does movement do anything?

Thanks in advance :)

Basically, newbies to the BD will want to use weapons that do at least 6 icons. Don't bother with anything less. When you start getting into it a bit more you can go for 8-iconers and 10-iconers. The next step is 11-iconers/13-iconers, and then you get into the big expensive stuff like the 16+ icon Sword of Skardsen. I'll give a few examples at the end of this post.

Many people seem to go for a set structured like this:

1. Main attacker (strongest)
2. Secondary attacker (equally strong or a bit weaker)
3. Dual-duty (attack/defence) or a third attacker
4. Healer
5. Bomb (once per battle)
6. Pure Defence
7. Freezer
8. Stealer/Reflector/One-use Bomb/etc. (rotates depending on enemy)

I posted this for someone in another thread, but it can apply to those of you who are just starting out, or have a little BD experience but not much NP. It's a good beginner set, and all pieces are an excellent value.

1. Obsidian dagger (6-8 icons) (550 NP)
2. Bone Sceptre (6 icons) (300 NP)
3. Scarab Ring (6 icons each of attack and defense) (1.5K)
4. Greater Healing Scroll (heals 50 HP) (30K)
5. Illusens Earth Potion (6-9 icons, once per battle) (2K)
6. Downsize! (blocks 50% of an attack; a MUST) (8.5K)
7. Snowglobe Staff (19% chance of freezing) (25K)
8. A one-use item/stealer/shield (sticky snowball, fire muffin, leaf shield, patched magic hat, purple sticky hand for challengers that have good stealable items... basically, rotate in whatever works best)

Once you get to the point where you don't mind spending a little more, you can stick some of these things in there (the BFC is 400K; the 9/10 iconers run about 550-850k; the 11-iconers are about 1.5-2 mil; the 13-iconers are about 3.5-3.7 mil; the H4K and F-pot are about 5.5-7 mil):

Black Frost Cannon (better chance of freeze)
Pike Pike (9 icons)
Scuzzys Comb (10 icons)
Ramtors Spellbook (10 icons)
Goo Blaster (11 icons)
Garoo Elite Blaster (11 icons)
Fungus Ray (11 icons)
Bzzt Blaster (11 icons)
Wand of Reality (13 icons)
Bow of Destiny (13 icons)
Honey Potion (14+ icon bomb)
H4000 Helmet (100% freeze)
Freezing Potion (100% freeze, 2 icons)

And after that comes Hidden Tower weapons like SoS, Pirate Captains Cutlass, Ghostkerbomb, Mask of Coltzan, etc.

And IF you have trained defence to match your strength, these dual-duties (attack and defend at the same time) are good. I'm not a defensive battler myself and I can't recall the exact stats. The IDB is down, so I can't check, but when it does come back you can do a search.

Tooth of Terask
Amulet of Inevitable Betrayal
Cloudy Wand of Storms
Frozen Wand of Crystals
Sword of the Dead
Dusty Magic Broom

Also, the useful faerie abilities:

Drain Life (drains 10% of opponent's HP and gives them to you)
Burrow (blocks a whole bunch of an attack; can't remember exact percentage)
Sink (like burrow, but with different icon types)
Regeneration/Restore/Water Vapour (heal 33% of lost(?) HP)
Fiery Gaze (chance of freeze)
Diamond Dust (slightly better chance of freeze)

Then there's Quench, Steam Shield, and all the other full blockers, but I can't remember them off the top of my head, so see IDB's section on faerie abilities when it's back up -- it tells you which ones are useful.

Obviously, don't take all this as BD law -- my set examples tend to lean more towards the offensive rather than the defensive, and someone with matching strength and defense boosts will probably set theirs up differently. Also, I'm primarily a 1-player battler -- if you want to use the 2-player BD, it's a whole different animal and you'll be probably be doing a lot more defending and reflecting than flat-out attacking. But the weapons I've listed are some of the most commonly-used and the best value, and should work well for any new or intermediate BDer.

My pet's stats are:

LVL: 52
HP: 100
STR: 100
DEF: 100
SPEED: 100

My budget is around 1.5m, can someone recommend a good set of bd items, already have a Royal Wedding Ring, Silver Draik Bow, a few Ornate Fighting Fans, Dark Battle Duck, Greater Healing Scroll, Battle Faerie Dual Swords, Scarab Rings, looking to upgrade, would appreciate if any experts could enlighten me. :D

There were recently a few good (and fairly cheap) items released for the mid-level battlers. Essence of Esophagor does 10 icons (5 water, 5 earth), which isn't great in 2-player due to being easily blocked, but is fine in 1-player. It's currently selling for 300k. Psellias Fighting Fan does 9 icons (3 light, 3 air, 3 physical), and is good in 1 or 2-player. It's also around 300k. Stone Club does 3 air, 3 earth and 3 phys (better for 1-player). It's under 200k.

These new weapons are insane... I realy sense a new eara of weapon prices for intermediate battlers thanks to these. I meen prices on the TP as of posting this are as low as 110k and there are like 10 lots asking for that. 9 icons= 110k?!?!? :o

I'm not really an avid battler, but I've been in it to get some of the avvies and I've been doing Defenders of Neopia (I've gotten up to beating the Brain Tree). I'm focused on 1-player battles, I don't intend to do 2-player.

I'm using my lab pet (who I will stop zapping once I find a color I like, then I'll start training) who is currently a Flotsam. I don't currently have any faerie abilities, but I plan on getting them once I'm done with the zapping. Anway, his stats are:

Name: LianJieLi
Health: 167
Level: 14
Strength: 50
Defence: Tough
Movement: 59

My defence isn't on par with my other stats. I don't wanna train it yet cause of the lab zapping.

I have:

Honey Potion, Royal Wedding Ring, Leaf Shield, Purple Sticky Hand, Illusens Earth Potion, and some cheaper items like snowballs, Illusens quest items and cheap stuff from the snowager and stuff.

I know I need a freezer, but which one would you guys recommend? I have a pretty decent budget, so any weapon recommendations, other than the uber expensive ones, will be helpful. :)

Fri Apr 07, 2006 4:28 am

First, don't zap your pet too much without doing any training, or you will end up in a very bad situation -- you'll end up having to train level to half your HP (always very high for lab rats) before you can raise any other stat, and it'll cost you way more codestones and time than necessary in the long run. If you're really serious about the BD, train level and defence as you lab for strength and HP. I suggest registering at the In-Depth Battlepedia forums and reading this guide.

There are a few options for freezers.

Unobtainable, crazy expensive super freezer+bomb: Moehog Skull. Don't even think about it.

Expensive, random freezers: Slumberberry Potion (10 icons, 17% freeze, 9.5 mil), Ice Dice (20% freeze, none for sale right now). Only useful for people with a lot of HP.

Relatively expensive, 100%, non-species-specific freezers: From lowest price to highest, they are H4000 Helmet (6 mil), Freezing Potion (7 mil), Magical Marbles of Mystery (8 mil), and Sleep Ray (10 mil+). These are what most "real battlers" use and what you should aim for in the future. Oh, and Heavy Blue Tunic should be included in there. It's over 5 mil, I think, and requires 1000 intelligence to use (should cost about a million to get there).

Species freezers: There's a variety here. Some are 100%, cheap and breakable (Ancient Lupe Wand -- I used this for years and I liked it). Some are 100%, expensive and unbreakable (Entangling Lenny Lasso, Lenny Ray Gun of Freezing). Some are percentage freezers (Elephante Stunray, 2% chance). Obviously these are only good when you stop labbing and settle on a species.

Non-species specific breakable freezers: Scroll of Freezing. 100% freeze, but breaks for good after just a few uses. Good for important battles, but not a long-term solution.

Non-species-specific percentage freezers: Black Frost Cannon (23%), Rainbow Frost Cannon (17%), and Snowglobe Staff (19%) are the only three of note, I think. Pretty much anyone who can't afford a 100% freezer uses these, especially in one-player, where you can withdraw if it doesn't freeze on the first shot. These are what I'd recommend for you right now. BFC is 400k, and SS is only 23k.

Non-species specific, breakable percentage freezers: Stuff like Kaylas Potion of Freezing, which does 4 icons, freezes about 4% of the time, and breaks for good after freezing. Absolute junk that you should not touch with a 10-foot pole.

Faerie Abilities: Fiery Gaze freezes about 1/7-1/8 of the time, and Diamond Dust 1/5. And while we're talking faerie abilities, you definitely need burrow, sink, regeneration or restore, and maybe drain life.

For a look at every single freezer, you can do an advanced search at the IDB. Just check the box next to the freezing icon, check "buyable only" (removes one-player BD weapons you can't get), and put "50" in the Limit box. You should get 37 results... there's not a lot of choice when it comes to freezers.

A little off-topic, but is Moehog Skull really from Spooky Scratchcard? The price tag makes it look more like a HT item. o_O

Fri Apr 07, 2006 10:38 pm

It does come from a scratchcard (the most expensive one, I believe), but it's extremely, extremely rare, and the only weapon that does a bunch of damage, defends some earth and dark, and 100% freezes. That's why the price is... well, would be so high, if there were actually any for sale.

Cranberry, could you do the same analysis for healers? Is there any hope for moderately priced healers to turn up?
