When Julia is shot in Cowboy Bebop is a heartbreaker.
Cowboy Bebop is the first one that came to mind for me. From what I remember, from two or three years ago when I saw it...
Just that entire episode, where they are together finally after what seemed to be ages, where their love seemed to be an impossibility. But you'll only have your heartbroken when you realize the reunion is also for the last time--it would end as a bittersweet as it began.
The reverie is broken by conflict and Julia being shot. As they speak for the last time, she mentions his eyes, and how they were both different.... then she passes away.
And then you can just tell, he loses it. Spike just loses it and has nothing left, and it's all of a sudden all right for him to lose his life if that's what it comes to, because he just gives up on everything.
He has his last fight with Vicious and becomes mortally wounded, and within the final moments when he raises that gun, and says, "Bang," you're filled with nothing but despair. The camera pans away, and all you hear...
Never seen a bluer sky
Yeah, I can feel it reaching out
And moving closer
There's something about blue.
Everything is clearer now
Life is just a dream, you know
That's never ending
I'm ascending.
You're gonna carry that weight...
Oh my gosh, Cowboy Bebop was so very depressing.
