They probably ARE going to do this, but it seems unfair - not everbody plays video games and TCGs. I'd say less than 1/10th of Neopets players have ever played the video game or card game.

I'm definitely not going out and buying them just for the plot.

I'm sure you won't need to. Neopets will supply a story of their own, seperate from the darkest faerie ps2 game. sort of like a behind the scenes look. besides, Darigan wasn't mentioned at all in the video game.

Why not? Will it have something to do them fighting her back, as they are already enchanted with "evil purple", thereby immune to hear magic?

the game was a side story, and we are going to play the other half. looking very forward to what it is. ;)

Yeah, I agree with you. We are going to see a side of the story that is going to fit as a "other side of the story."

As far as Darigan is concerned, I know it's far fetched to think like that, but knowing TNT, anything is possible... :(

When have you ever needed to buy the tcg for the plot? Or anything else for that matter? The entire point of the on site plot comics is to tell the story that the cards only give snapshots of. It was the same with the Lost Desert Puzzle, The Maraquan war, The Hannah and the Ice Caves war, and the Battle for Meridell. I suspect that if you've played the video game you'll know 95% of what's going to happen in the plot already. It makes no sense for them to think up something entirely different using the same base storyline and characters.

While it is true that TNT does have a good storyline going (I don't know, I don't own a PS2, and haven't played the game), I dont' see them doing a puzzle like plot if they follow closely (to any degree) with the game, you would just give those who do own the game (I honestly haven't seen a single copy of the game, anywhere) a very big advantage. That would be just horribly mea....now wait a second, this is the same group that thought it would be funny to create a ray for our petpets to get zapped by....nevermind. I don't know what's going to happen... :(

Don't get me started on team switching. Oy. I love having the option to choose sides. Actually, I just love being evil, but they'd never let there be a war where everyone started off as a bad guy. Truth be told, they'd have to have a fair bit of common sense not to make a two-sided war biased toward either side. They've done brilliantly with the Lost Desert Puzzle, but they've yet to prove that they have an iota of common sense when it comes to war planning. The opponents for each side would have to be identical in difficulty, weaponry, and ability. The only thing that could be different would be their images and names. Then, once it came to choosing prizes, those too would have to be identical in every way that matters. If they were not, they'd run the risk of ticking off a group of players by default. It could be done, it could be awesome, but it's not something I'd dare to hope for from them.

In the Meridell v. Darigan war, the sides were horribly unbalanced. In fact, the first opponent the Darigans had to fight had TWICE AS MUCH HP as the one the Meridells had to beat. Basically it went down like this: Everyone started off fighting for Meridell, and Darigan had few supporters. After about the fourth enemy or so, they gave everyone the option to switch sides, but lose half of your points. Obviously it's in your best interest to switch, because you can start all over beating enemies, while keeping some of the points you had before for free. Darigan won the war, which was a surprise for most, but I think TNT intended it that way all along. Lord Darigan went crazy with power, and with the help of the Orb, became the war boss. (You had to remember some of the plot to understand what I'm saying). My point is, TNT manipulates the two-sided wars to ensure the side they want to win, wins. If there's another two-sided war, they'll do it again.

Yeah, I agree with you. TNT is horrible about letting the bad guys win. As in, they DON'T! I can actually remember both Meridell wars, because they were the first ones I partcipated in. I really loved the idead of being on the dark side, but I never knew about the whole swtiching sides advantage thing. I joined on the side of Darigan, and stayed there all the way through the second war.

I would almost like to see a Neopets World War. Instead of choosing Light or dark, maybe choose Faerieland or Meridell, Darigan or Haunted Woods, then based on your side, the appropriate goons or heros would be sent after you (like if you joined Faerieland, goons would be sent after you. If you joined the Haunted woods, Darigan, or Sloth [perfect time to being him back], you would face heros.) Just my thought, and I know that it sounds rather corny.

But maybe they should just let this war go, I mean, just let it decide the fate of Neopia. If the Dark Side wins, maybe have the map changed to show that, then wait a few months (letting the good side rebuild) then invade and take back the land. I don't know, I just think that a war should actually have a consequence for once.

Actually, the problem with Meridell v. Darigan was that the bad guys DID win, when they obviously shouldn't have. Pretty much everyone signed up with Meridell in the beginning, but defected when the option was given because that was the most profitable way to go. Basically, in Neopets plots, people normally sign up with the good guys.

My idea for a great war would be like this: Everyone would get to be aligned with a certain sphere of magic (fire, light, dark, air, earth, water). They would fight each other, and the winner would dominate Neopia for however long. It's a weird idea, and way too complicated, but it might be cool.

I'd say that they don't allow the defecting thing in the future, it causes too much chaos. I remember back when the Meridell war was going on, and it really wasn't until the last minute that we pulled in front to win, which I will admit was because of the defectors. That's why I say that if you join a side, they should make it that you stay on that side.

I would almost like to see that idea (the one with the sphere of magic alignment), but maybe make that one a more long-term thing. Like maybe make it so that you have to get so many battles in the battledome to be invited, and even then, you'll need to shop around, have each sphere have certain benefits (like if you are with the dark side, you get to use drain life more than once a battle again ). Maybe have that as a more long-term thing so we have something to do as an entire site between wars.

You're thinking of something kind of like the Faerie Leagues. (Man, I'm old).

Lol don't feel so bad. I'm still getting used to having the Sinsis sword being called 'Almost junk' by someone I was talking to. And to have what the battle set that was pretty good at the time I slowed down on Neopets pretty much become worthless when I came back.

Maybe they should bring those back. I mean I would work hard to get into them, and if we had like mini-wars between the different spheres (air vs. earth, light vs. dark, fire vs. water, etc.) that would help keep people training, eh? Though that would hurt the codestone/bottled faerie/dubloon market, at least as far as inflation is concerned.

Yeah, I had a set with a Sinsis Sword and a Fruit Bomb in it... I thought that was great, but then I found out people consider them junk now. I still like Fruit Bomb though. It's original.

Fruit Bomb isn't junk! It's slightly more powerful than Honey Potion, which is a staple in most intermediate battlesets (until you can upgrade to the 7mil+ Ghostkerbomb). Sinsis Sword, though... yeah, it used to be considered great, but it's definitely not sought after now, and neither are the Zaptwig or the Fire and Ice Blade, which were weapons I coveted way back when.

I remember when I won my (9-iconer) Mystery Fruit Bowl and I was so excited because pretty much all the other 9+ icon weapons cost millions. Now you can get a 10-icon Ramtors Spellbook or Scuzzys Comb for 600-800K. I'm not complaining, though -- I think it's nice to have some options for people who don't earn millions quickly.

I remember when I was aiming to get a fire and ice blade  Another weapon was the Hand Painted Scarab. Remember that one?

EDIT:
Just so we don't start a long spat here about old weapons, I made a topic over in the Battledome Board about old school weapons :)

I'm sure TNT wouldn't allow people to defect to other sides anymore...at least not as much. Would cause a huge stress on their servers. like the concept with the last two wars, where you chose who you were going to fight for (and what pet you would use as well with one of them). makes things simple.

Though if there is defection, i do recall looking into something on "The Matrix Online". They have a current system that allows you to add a tag to your name in support of a certain cause. of course, you have to do this manually each time you put it on and off inside the game, and must wait 24 hours for customer service to alter your account. Interesting, no?

I tihnk the only reason they DID do it was because the wrong side was winning. Darigan needed to win for the plot to come out the way they intended it to, because there's no one on the Meridell side that would become mad with power and turn into a fiery war boss. I just can't see that coming from Skarl. For the HATIC and Maraqua plots, they had intended the good guys to win all along. (Maybe not for Maraqua, but definitely for HATIC). If the villains had started coming out ahead, they would have either given the option to switch sides, or made the opponents for that side much harder.

fascinating thread here.

if the plot is darkest faeries and involves the uber faeries the questing system for stats may get an overhaul. The items that the faeries ask for are all old and they are predictable. just look at all the quest shops in the central market. an overhaul of that tired quest system would sure be great.

perhaps players could earn the right to choose a quest by beating a bad guy in the plot.

Or maybe the quests would be to defeat the people in the Battledome?
