Did anyone else notice this line win looking at the winners of the latest RC?

Quote:
Third Place

Lastly are the runners-ups who will each receive 2,000 NP and the Random Contest avatar.

It normally says

Quote:
Third Place

Lastly there were 100 runners-up who will each receive 2,000 NP and the Random Contest avatar.

Does this actually mean that under 100 people actually entered real entries?(like not entering a black picture and saying ONG! INVISIBLE KACHEEK!).

Well, not everyone has a scanner. That cuts out a good chunk of the Neopets population.

I noticed that too. I think in this case it was lack of digital cameras / going outside / imagination that cut the number of entires short.

It's not as popular now that a lot of the avatar collectors have gotten the avatar. The payout is usually better than the LC but the random contest requires you to actually do or make something instead of just getting the answer off the neoboards.

A lot of people complain that the RC is mostly an art contest, but then they have one like this, where you just had to take a picture of something resembling a neopet and they didn't have enough entries to fill out the runners up catagory. :P

Ah man, I should have used that Invisible Mynci idea. :P

Speaking of the RC, could someone please tell me what this is supposed to be?

Is it a petpet? I'm not too familiar with all of the different species....

I don't have a camera or scanner or else I would have entered some burnt toast or something.

Ohhhh, ok. Thank you, Trick.

This new RC looks kind of fun. If I find the time, I might try my hand at it. But first, I need to buy some yarn....

It's not terribly difficult to find a relative, friend, neighbor, someone you can borrow a digital camera from, these days. If they think you're a klutz and don't want you to hold the camera, it only takes a second for them to snap a picture for you (obviously easier if you can bring the subject to them).

People seem oddly busy right now, for a million different reasons. I haven't entered the RC lately for that reason, and I rarely have ever missed entering an RC even if I were pressed for time. I enjoy it so much I find myself missing it, so hopefully I will have free time and a brilliant idea this weekend. Even when you don't win it's really fun to participate :)

Maybe Lawyerbot scares people away... :battar:

Lawyerbot grumbles:
- Have an adult present when doing all crafts.

lol xD

I would enter, but I hate yarn. the feel of the fabric make me sick to my stomach. I got the goosebumps thinking about it

I think a lot of the times they extend it for an extra week, they probably don't have enough entries and want more.

I have the avatar and a third-place trophy from early on (the RC where you had to write the text that should go inside one of the book items on Neopets). I keep meaning to enter the RC again but I haven't yet. I didn't have enough snow to make a snow Neopet (I really wanted to do that one, though) and I was going to make a Devilpuss antenna topper and never got around to it.

I think maybe a lot of people miss it in the news, especially with all the fuss about the LC at the same time. If they would put the first-place winner's picture or something in the news (like they do with art gallery thumbnails), more people might see it and be interested.

I missed it. I looked over the news 3 times, then FINALLY found it. They should do thumbnails

Hmm. That actually looks like it would be sort of fun. I certainly have plenty of yarn about -- leftovers from knitting and all. I also keep meaning to enter the Random Contest and don't, despite not having the avatar.

Maybe once the Olympics are over I can give it a try.

I also think the contests lately have been a little... out there. People are probably more inclined to do arts and crafts rather than just wandering around looking for something that resembles a Neopet.

Perhaps they could get some not-so-out-there ideas from this Random Contest: http://www.neopets.com/random_contest.phtml?place=3

It can't be, it must just be a random change. I entered last week's random contest but didn't get a prize or avatar. (It was a nice cloud Maraquan Grarrl, but someone submitted a much cooler Maraquan Grarrl, so I'm not surprised mine didn't win. :P ) Maybe they just didn't award as many third place prizes as normal?

*Major Edit* I just now got a neomail for winning 3rd place in the Everyday Neopets Random Contest. I guess it just takes longer to send out the 3rd place neomails. :P

I think the random contest should be a little out there, for those of us who aren't any good at drawing/poetry. However, they need to space out the news a little, and not start every single contest on Thursday. I remember when the conundrum was on Tuesday and the BTY on Friday.
