I didn't really find Evil to be all that much harder. The less healing potion drops were weighed up by the weapon and armour drops which meant I could sell off the old weapon and armour pretty frequently and buy whatever potions I needed. The only thing I really had to change in playing style was being extra careful not to die, as you get bumped back to the beginning of the chapter rather than the last inn you were at, and training a bit extra before Zombom and before the beginning of chapter 3/Silicast.

Not true. Believe me, I know. I lost to Zombom's Tower so many times... Anyway, it still takes you back to the last inn you were at. However, if you lose on Insane, you have to start the game over.

^ Really? I though the difficulty level was normal: restart at last inn, evil: restart at beginning of chapter, insane: restart at the very beginning.

I guess this means I should star using inns, heh. I've just gone the route of not dying at all so far (never died on my first playthrough of Evil either).

Yeah, it's definitely start at the last inn you rested at. I should know, seeing as I've died at the same point about a bajillion times(because I'm underlevelled AND impatient, and I prefer dying to the monotony of backtracking and training).
I have a love/hate relationship with Evil Mode. Those prizes keep me going, but I DO get really frustrated sometimes. I'm never trying Insane, because of the whole impatience thing.
Also, arogance, have you gotten Mipsy yet? I always love getting Mipsy, because it's double the number of attacks, and if you put like 8 points into Direct Damage, she kills most critters in one shot for awhile. If you have and are still frustrated, we'll pretend I said nothing.

Oh no!

You were killed on InSaNe! difficulty!
There's no coming back from that defeat... you'll have to start the game over!

:D I think we've found the source of the problem.

Well I've never had a problem playing through evil, only insane, and it wouldn't matter there obviously. :)

I'll be reaching the happy fun non-haunted place shortly, then the 4 faeries. Didn't have a problem with them the previous time I did evil and I'm a bit overtrained now too, so they should be a piece of cake.

How over trained are you right now? I am replaying evil too and just entered there with Velm about 2/3 of the way to level 49. I remember the first times I played, I had a B of a time with the faeries on normal, evil went okay...and insane I overtrained soo much just so I wouldn't die on them that I ended up hitting 60 before I got to underclouds in the last chapter. :roflol: Don't think I am going to overtain that much this time.....

I was almost to 47 when I finished the happy fun non-haunted house, so I went back to the haunted wood area and did 3 battles to reach 47, then plowed through the faeries with no difficulty at all. :)

There's always a lot of joking about the similarities between the NQII 'simulation programs' and The Matrix, and joking about the glitches in the game, but this glitch I recently encountered was taking it a bit far, imo...

That "Glitch" has been there since day one. I havn't ever personally seen it, oddly enough. Its purpose was supposed to hint to players early on in the game, that all was not as it appeared...

Of course, now, its pointless, since EVERYBODY knows its a simulation.

I saw it in the cave leading to Zombom's tower, but it only appeared for one step. It didn't stick around, and I wound up clicking right past it, even though I knew what it was. I think it only appeares in the Evil and Insane modes, though. In fact, I think that's EXACTLY where I saw it.

I know I saw it in normal mode, because I hadn't read about it yet so I was a bit bzuh? But kept playing and much later I came upon the explanation on IDNQ. I saw it somewhere in green grass when I was in chapter 1 on evil two weeks ago, it's only in chapter 1, before you 'find out' about the simulation.

same here. needless to say, I was dissapointed that I didn't get a HoD or RSB.

Not that bad - I have played Evil thrice, got the tooth all three times. And that too from a dial-up. Now I have started Insane hoping that there is something like a 'law of average'...

you'll probably end up with the staff of fury (the worst insane prize)

how can you stand doing NQ on dial up? i'm on high speed and even then it gets on my nerves. :o

I wont lose my sleep if I get staff of fury (though BoD will be a nice bonus) - my actual goal is to finish neoquest I & II all levels this year. And also maybe come up with some better way to beat KT2 than what I found in various guides (but I should add that the guides helped me a lot in my early days).

I have two weapons as good as BoD for 1-player, so I don't mind what I get. This is likely to go to my gallery (if I ever have one).

Regarding using dial-up, I keep some fixed goals everytime I play. Maybe like increase from level 10 to level 15 or reach a certain place (when I have Velm). Sometimes when I am frustated with other games, I just pick weaker enemies in NQ2 and punch them - it always cheers me up. I do that to Balthazar and any weak 1-player also
