Which is a worse fatal disease: Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (aka Mad Cow's disease) or Fatal Familial Insomnia? Brief Differential Diagnosis: Both have similar symptoms such as inability to sleep, lack of muscle control and dementia. FFI's symptoms progress mostly toward the end of the disease. There is no cure for either--death is 8-60 months after first symptoms for Mad Cow's and about a year for FFI.
