There's actually a box you need to uncheck when you update shockwave, it is an option to download it or not, you musta been like me (and 98% of the population
) and just kept clicking continue without reading

And I'd be willing to bet that this portal and toolbar does have tracking built into it. I know the portal automatically shows your local weather and stuff. That freaked me out!
You IP address automatically tells them which area you're in I believe, no big deal, they know it as soon as you're on the site anyway
I've seen a couple of people saying things like "scam city" (in a previous thread) and "I wouldnt want to give that kind of information out" but as far a I saw when I went to the Portal (and used it for a day or two before they closed it off) they don't actually ask you for any personal information other than what you choose to give them when you sign up for the site in the first place.
And the person that said once about it inviting scammers (or words to that effect) if you're the only person that can see all your information, how can it possibly entice people to scam you more than they do/can now?
There was only a few things I didn't like about the Portal - firstly it was SO U.S. biased, all the non-neo features it had were basically useless if you didn't live in the U.S. I actually wasn't that fond of the non-neo features at all actually
But I also didn't like the buddy list, showing if your neofriends were on or offline. If I'm online, and don't feel like talking to other people, I don't want them knowing I'm online, and choosing not to talk, and maybe being insulted by that :/ I like my anonymity a lot
