I was talking to a friend online about the lab ray. He said that after a certain amount of time, the lab ray dissapears and you have to buy it all over again. Is this true? doesnt TNT have something in the coding or something that tells them that you have the lab?

It'll only disappear if there is a glitch.

It has been known to disappear. There's an article about it in the IDB somewhere... You get some new moves when it happens though.

I would imagine that the dissapearing lab ray glitch is the source of the rumor your friend heard.
However under normal operating conditions (ie no glitches) your lab ray should be with you for the life of your account.

Its been known to happen. I lost my lab ray on my old account...however I have also gained a lab ray through the same glitch. Seems whenever someone loses it, someone else posts they got a free lab ray.
This is also the only way (now) that you can get abilities like Improved Defend (by losing or getting a free kab ray).
As far as I know its been fixed...

I'd hate for that to happen to me. I was lucky enough to buy them when they were cheap. I'd hate to shell out a trillion NP for a new one.

Heh, same here. It would cost me about 10 times as much to get one now as it did when I originally bought it.

That's a lie - it has disappeared on both my regular account (I finally went out and bought another) *and* my gallery account (decided not to waste my time getting another). There's no telling what triggered it, but I do know people seem to get free lab maps out of someone losing theirs. I heard a rumour that it you send in a bug report TNT will let you have access again, but even though I've sent countless (and I mean countless) bug reports, I've never gotten a response nor access back.

From what I hear they are now tagging your account with something that tells them you had it, also screenshots can get it back as well. It worked for someone I hear.

I heard that the lab map diappears when you don't use it for a certain mount of time.

i have had my lab for almost 3 years now and it has never disappeared.
also, there was a time where i stopped labbing during one of the wars so that i could keep my species weapons...so it doesn't disappear if you stop using it either..
basically, it only disappears if a glitch happens. but if it does disappear, you get the most wanted ability (improved defend). that should more than make up for losing your lab map.
