Neopets = Hypocritical?

I've always wondererd about that inter-species thing myself. Especially with Jeran and Lisha. I mean... to the way I think that's just wrong. Plain ol' wrong.

Don't mistake me, I'm not against the morality of neopets marrying or having children, even outside of their species. I just think that getting two seperate species from the same parents is wrong. Freaky, even.

The issue has been brought up in Sonic before... someone sent in a fanart of what a Sonic/Sally (Hedgehog/Squirrel) child would look like. The comic in its hypothetical 25 years later aka Sonicquest (back around issue 16) had their children being one squirrel and one hedgehog. That's not how genetics works (look at Ligers and the Dolphin/Whale offspring in real life). They'd be a mixture.

And a Lupe/Aisha mixture would be a horrific thing indeed.

Edit: And yes, I know it's a fantasy setting and they can do whatever they please without having to worry about the genetics or even the physical limitations/impossibilities. There's just a little bit of me that still finds it wrong and illogical. Probably the artist part. It always has crazy notions.

About the marriage thing. My views have pretty much been stated. They want to keep kids from doing explicit things that could get them in a lot of trouble with parents. Plus as they've stated neopets are still young kids and not adults. They age I assume as we age, so the oldest I do believe a Neopet could be would be 7, and I don't think many parents would want their seven year old canoodleing with another kid that age or younger.

And as for the money thing.
Neopets is a business. Of course they want to make money off it. But thats just it. It's their money to make. They own it. People who play often play for free (unless you're premium, but then you pay for perks), and those who sell accounts or pets or whatever are not benefiting neopets as a company. They benefit themselves. Paid or not paid, you sign an agreement when you join Neopets to follow their rules. And one of their rules is you can't profit monetarily from their existance.

I mean, we have a hard enough time regulating it here, where people are ... considerably more civil And PPT mods have a larger presence, too *points to large people*

TNT can mention marriage and all those other issues all they want because they know they will be doing it in an appropiate fashion. However, of course, they will not allow normal users to discuss these issues as there will be a fair few that will discuss it inappropiately.

considering what was done is a complete 180, it's to be expected. Neopets has expected us to not talk about certain things in neopets, and then they go and have a marriage between 2 neopets, one of the such restricted items of chat.

Also, a few of those users who started such topics in the site and not here were probably warned/frozen, since such words as "marriage" and "love" were used. But then again, I don't really know, so...

[edit]I can relent my attack on neopets "selling" neopoints to users, since, yes, they ARE the owner of the product they are providing. It may not have started as a business (i THINK ) but now it has grown in enough size to be one. heck. I'd probably do it too if I was in charge...except the premium bit. only if i REALLY needed it, but we don't really see the bank accounts of Neopets biz now do we. For all I now could be small.

And you don't believe they set a good example? I'm trying to figure this out. They're no worse then any disney movie out there. Actually they're cleaner then most disney movies or kids movies being made now adays. They're downright tame. They set a good example. Nothing is explicit. And really, it's a plot line in a story. Nothing more. You don't see them getting down and jiggy with it on the wedding night.
It's strange. People freaked out in the Hannah plots because Hanna looked like she was 'drinking' and yet, there was no proof behind it. Nothing. And now that they're doing something tame, people still get mad. They will never please everyone, as made obvious by various posts (which I find dissapointing).

And Lucifer, I have read your discussions on the new terms and conditions, and I do not agree with you. My views are expressed mainly with those who disagree with you. And I am sad to say I do not support your arguments against TNT.
I also dislike your use of the word "communist". Because they are no more communist then any other organization. You could call PPT communist if you look at us, because we have certain taboo subjects, and certain things we do not allow in the general parts of the forums. They are no worse then many other companies out there.

True and true. Disney and most other animations companies FOR KIDS release content that is far more racy than Neopets. But Disney doesn't stop you from watching their movies if you talk about it while in their presence. My concern is the double talk. It's in the defense of the users that have been frozen in the past for what NEopets is now openly displaying.

Again. Neopets has rules against things like Pet marriages (or at least they have in the 5 years i've been playing). Thusly, anyone frozen for such activities in that time frame got frozen for their own stupidity. The thing is, is that they do it tastefully, and many users I am sure, in a frightful manner, would not do things tastefully. If you don't read the rules, thats your fault, not theirs. They tell you to read them if I am not mistaken when you first join.

Socialism and Communism are different things. I do not believe I know of any lasting socialist community, and yet communism has lasted through at least the greater part of the past century in various societies. Nor do I know exactly what you're implying about brotherhood in that comment, so if you clarify i'd be more then happy to reply.

And finally,

Yes, Hannah was drinking. But who doesn't drink? So she was drinking from what looks like a "pint" mug or whatever. When I was little kid I LOVED drinking out of big pint glasses, or mugs, simply because they were big. Not because they were connected with being alcoholic.

I doubt neo ever really wanted it to be associated that way. People can still party and not get drunk, and I can only assume, that this is indeed what was going on. Neos views on alcohol are fairly clear considering their clearance of the majority (I am not quite sure if it is indeed ALL) of their items that make a reference to being alcoholic.

1. No one replied my last post, which clarifies my opinion. After the first post there was a lot of place for misunderstanding, but now there isn't (i suppose).

2. I am sad to see that so many people just say "Amen" to everything TNT does or says. Sometimes there's a weak link in the system, and in this case it is the way TNT treats its users, which reminds me 4-years kids in kindergarten. Neopets is the only game i know where new players can make foolish mistakes and the blame would be on the players who set the mistake opportunity. Come on, if you bought something overpriced because you were rash and irresponsible and didn't check the wiz, just face it. Its annoying that TNT is there to protect any players who play stupidly, it screws the older and better players.
(yeah, and once i was a new player too, and when i had my first unfair deal that caused me to lose 20k, i just accepted it and learned my lesson. today you won't see me screwed up like that again).

3. the word "communist" is radicalization that was supposed to make my point clearer. I don't really think that one day the site will be communist, I just say that this "don't use your business skills to make extra-profitable trades" attitude is over-protective - we're no talking here about hacking or lying, we're talking here about deals that you can easily avoid by being careful (not being stupid, to be precise).

4. Lets take the dairy as example. I don't really know what you're doing there, but lets say that you're a seller. Now, you convince people to buy more products because you speak eloquently and you're very impressive - you just know how to sell. Now, there's a new guy at the dairy. He almost doesn't sell products and generally being an unsuccessful seller: he's just not familiar enough with the job.
One day, a supervisor from a governmental office comes to the dairy. He notices that you sell faster and earn more money as a tip, while the other guy sells slowly. The supervisor tells you: "You! You're not allowed to speak eloquently and convince clients to buy products! look at this guy..," he points at the other seller, "he's so miserable, he's almost not selling and barely earns money. Why should he suffer because you do the job better? huh?!".
You tell the supervisor that it's really not a big deal, and one day this guy will sell much more because he'll be more experienced and he'll learn the tricks you use.
"Not accepted! What you're doing is illegal! Period!" and he walks away angrily.

My first unfair lesson was selling a fire paintbrush for 99 999. Did I complain? No. Why? Because it's my own darn fault I lost out on god knows how many neopoints. I don't think TNT protects against stupid mistakes. Nor do I sing their praises. I know that unjust freezings happen (and it happened to me once, but I was unfrozen). I know that bad things happen. But I still don't think TNT is trying to protect "old" vs "new" one over the other.
Personally I have no problem with people not being allowed to sell items for overpriced or idiotic reasons. I actually quite loathe people who do it in the trading post, jacking prices and whatnot, because it makes it more annoying for me as a buyer to find the items I want. I feel this statement answers the dairy statement.
Ontop of this, Neopets panders to kids (lets face it, they do, I know theres a WHOLE WHACK of adults who play, but they really are starting to focus more and more on children/young teens) . When I was a kid, I disliked being ripped off. And I took it far harder then I do now. Now I just go "darn, that was stupid of me". But when you're a kid doing something stupid like that and then realising what happens really makes you feel ripped off.
I really feel that there is a difference between good selling, and trying to rip people off. And I think it's not good selling that TNT is trying to protect against, but instead ripping people off that they're trying to protect against. Even older players get ripped in such a manner, so this isn't a new player specific question.

As I stated above. I think there is a difference between ripping people off and using good business skills.

Neopets is there to protect new players, but more importanly to protect younger players. How many other popular online game sites do you know of where such a large percentage are young children? These younger children are arguably the biggest (if not one of the biggest) target groups when it comes to merchandise and spreading the word about neopets to their friends, the happier these children are the more successful neopets becomes.

You aren't punished on neopets for making more neopoints than other people, you aren't punished for being a better seller or trader. What you are punished for is lying to your buyers about how much an item is worth: "faerie pb in trades for only 800k!!!" written under a faerie paint brush plushie. That is illegal, that's what neo protect against. Not using your experience as an advantage but outright lying. What's so wrong with neopets cracking down on those who cheat others to get their neopoints exactly?

As for plots, people have already said quite clearly why there is a huge difference between what neopets itself can do with full control over it and what users can do when neopets can't control everything. Neopets getting married in a plot won't lead to further discussions from neopets about what they get up to on their honeymoon. And plenty of people discussed the marriage in the plot on the neoboards without getting warned so I fail to see the big deal O_o
