The Scarlet Letter. I could not get through that book at all. I think it's the worst book I've ever had to read for school.

Also wasn't a big fan of Huck Finn, but I can see why a lot of people liked it, and I like Mark Twain in general.

I had to read Pride and Prejudice...really didn't like it.

Of Mice and Men. It was so utterly pointless and not worth my time that I haven't picked it up since.

The Crysalids or something of the sort. It's such a stupid book, dumb school.

But I do enjoy Shakespearean plays. But I do admit, "Romeo & Juliet" isn't as good as everyone said it was. However, "Macbeth" is just wonderful.

First and foremost: ERAGON. And its sequel. I started reading them expecting them to be somewhat well-written, since they're so popular, and honestly, they are SO AMATEUR. I take writing courses from a college every summer for two months (I intend to be a young author prodigy at 15 - hey, my good friend from the course I took last year is getting her novel published, why can't I? ) and there are some really elementary writing mistakes in the two books that stand out so badly. The plot is SO cliche. Honestly. It's like a mix of all the fantasy books I've ever read mushed together. Ick.

The Lord of The Rings trilogy. Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I absolutely couldn't get through them.

Ugh, I only read the books because my dad made me. I still want to know how they managed to get such fabulous movies out of that -_-

That's exactly what I thought when I read them! A complete caricature of all my fav books u.u. Though I'd have to disagree with Nessiah and Amethyst. I think the LOTR books are better than the movies, and his writing style is brilliant . That's just me, though.

Is it really weird that I hate good books because of the way they end? (His Dark Materials, etc.)

I couldn't get through them either. They bored me to death! I hated the movies as well. I'm just not a LOTR fan.

I also greatly dislike most romance novels, the majority of mysteries and Farienheit 9/11

I completely agree - I loved His Dark Materials until the last book, which totally ruined it for me. The first two books are absolutely amazing, though. Apparently there's going to be a movie of The Golden Compass, or whatever the UK title is (I forgot).

As to Lord of the Rings, I read the books in fifth grade (I'm a pretty advanced reader) and enjoyed them immensely. I read them again three years later to appreciate the movies more, and loved them even more. The movies are fantastic as well.

Oh i have something to say for this, you said you dont read books you dont like, well if its a new series and you havent read it how do you know if you like it or not?

Also i hate biographies for school no matter who it is they are sooooo boring.

I love that book! It's one of my favourites. I cried so much at the end. Each to their own I suppose.

Pointless books... hmm... well I've liked most books for one reason or another really. Oooh I remember one, "Brick Lane". So boring I couldn't even get to the end. I used to hate "Coram Boy" too but I read it again when I was older and enjoyed it way more.

I generally have a good feel for the tone of books before I read them, and it's rare I end up getting a book I didn't like. Still, I admit it'd probably be more accurate to say I don't finish books I don't like, I'll give you that. Once and a while I trudge on hoping, waiting, wishing it'd get better until I get to the very end and I realized I just wasted several hours of my time and I only finished the darned thing about of embarrassment for having bought it.

But usually it just takes me three chapters or three pages for me to realize I made a grave mistake, at which point I generally quit in disgust, and you can't really count those few pages "reading" the book. (But like everything, there are exceptions where I quit half way or even two chapters from the end)

There are probably only three cases in which I go through a series and realize I wasted...well a significant amount of time and money for a doomed cause.
