*agrees* Bringing Kochanski back permanently was generally a bad idea. There were some good-ish episodes in Series 7/8, but it was more like a run-of-the-mill sitcom and less like the Red Dwarf of old. I preferred the male Holly*, though Hattie had her moments ("rude alert!"). For me the whole thing peaked around series 5 - Quarantine and Back To Reality are as near perfection as Red Dwarf ever got. I think a film
could work if done right though judging by the quality of the abortive US series maybe it would be best if it doesn't happen
(I wouldn't worry about the delay... look how long it was before they finally made the H2G2 film - over twenty years after the first radio play?)
As for Craig Charles, Igg, I wondered why he doesn't appear on any of the cast commentaries on the two series DVDs I've got... if he's horrible to work with then that explains it
* Whoever came up with the idea of that Barclays commercial with Norman Lovett doing the voice of that megalomaniac robotic financial advisor thing is an absolute genius.
I still remember Rob Grant saying one time that the US had wanted to make the series over there.
But, they didn't like the Cat, cos no-one would understand him, they didn't want Rimmer and Kryten, cos Star trek had sone them better, and they wanted to set it on earth because there were too many programmes set in space.
Then they walked out laughing
