Instead of baddies vs innocents, make it a two sided game. The "light" side and the "dark" side. Each side would have your standard vigies, dreamers, healers, werewolves ect... but they would not know who is on their team. Allthough votes would be tailed togeather, there would be two executions-1 for whom the majority of the light side voted for and 1 for whom the majority of the dark sided voted for. The game ends when one side fnishes off the other side.
Each side would have some new roles, like a traitor which is on their side but accually wants the other side to win; a dreamer that can tell what side someone is on, and the power to convert someone else to your side.
And CD, mafia/werewolf has been a common form game for awhile. When Evil Genius brought it to IDB, and then Inu took over, and then passed it on the NPM it had grown enough that we needed two baddie teams. Mafia was a filetered word at IDB(turned into Vira) so instead of Mafia, NPM went with the dark rose syndicate.
Later scottnak took it to PPT, but changed the names off all the roles expect for werewolf out of respect for NPMs games. Everyone else who spread it apparentlykept the DRS as that is what they were used too.
Of course, your statment really isnt true. Sparkbomb has phenoixes, spectres and werewolves. Randomness is so random that everything is theamed and there are never mafia let alone werewolves. Cant say about the other places, but I doubt they all use DRS.
Rather, we kind of did have the two sides thing earlier. =/
