These three are the big cats that Joy Adamson raised from the 1960's to the 1980's. Elsa was the first that George and Joy Adamson raised. She is the famous lioness from the books Born Free, Living Free, and Forever Free. Sadly she died from an illness, as told in Forever Free. Pippa was the cheetah, and the second, that Joy Adamson raised. She only has two books written about her, The Spotted Sphinx and Pippa's Challenge. Sadly she also died from an illness, as told in Pippa’s Challenge. Penny, the leopard, and the third big cat Joy raised, was the heroin of the book, Queen of Shaba: The Story of an African Leopard.

Queen of Shaba was Joy Adamson's last book, as a former colleague(?) of her camp murdered her in 1980. After Joy’s death Penny was reportedly seen with two more litters of cubs. More information about this can be found in George Adamson’s autobiography, My Pride and Joy.

Poachers murdered George Adamson sometime in 1989. As stated in My Pride and Joy, he raised lion prides of his own, rehabilitating captive born lions back into the wild.

Elsa, Pippa and Penny proved difficult to draw for me, especially their eyes and ears. I didn’t like how Penny turned out, as I know I got some of her spots a bit too small. Elsa is a little bit off with her muzzle and ears. I loved how Pippa turned out, despite the eyes and ears. I first tried coloring in marker, but since I got the yellow to bright on Elsa, I did a cover-up on her with brown colored pencil. The other two are also done in colored pencil. Their eyes are all marker, excepted for the yellow, done in colored pencil. The inking was done with a Sharpie Felt-tip. The art style was based on The Lion King. The poses I based from a storybook that I own. Elsa based on Sarabi, and Pippa and Penny based Nala.

Wow, you really know a lot about these three cats and their owners.

Very nice drawing. I love Elsa's eyes. And, they do look like they would fit right in a Lion King theme.
