I posted this in the bill board because these were the entries I had in the beauty contest for Sept 30-oct 7, but after getting no feedback the first time I posted the topic, I got discouraged and tryied to repost my ad and it looks like I'll get no feedback on the second attempt either. (I tend to get very sensitive when things like that happen and I get frustrated and cry until I distract myself.)

Is there anything wrong with these pictures? Granted I am weak with anatomy and backgrounds I am still practicing on them. In spoite of the shortcomings with the legs and feet on the grarrl, I thought these pieces made some progress.

I love your artwork myself. I think you are inproving, but I am not really good at telling people what they need to work on, or offering suggestions. I like your colored pencil style of drawing, and at least it is better than a cut and paste or a color changing apple chia.

The only problem with your style of drawing is that I can't really tell which pets these are. I guess the top one is a grarrl and the bottom one is a draik or hissi. You may want to include in your description that these pets are a bit different and explain your style of drawing.

Like, " Here is my pet Grarrl. It is different than most grarrls in that it has wings. Notice the unique markings..."

I agree with everything (including not being good at giving suggestions to people :P )

I really love your work, its really unique and pretty. However its hard to distinguish between the pets, perhaps if you defined them by certain easily recognisable features it'd improve your work and make the pets easier to distinguish...

Either way you should not be discouraged by others criticism, opinions or lack thereof. Just keep working and your work is sure to improve. :D

Bill tends to get less feedback. If you want compliments/crits on the art you do need to come here for it. You shouldn't be discouraged by lack of feed back either; it does happen whether you like it or not, and it happens to everyone who posts here. It depends on what you've done and how people respond to it. Some people simply have nothing to say; and you shouldn't take it as offence. Sometimes you just honestly don't have anything to say about a piece. I know it happens to me, and i'm a studio art major in my BFA, so... you'd assume I should have an opinion about everything. But I don't.

Anywho.
On the top pic, I really feel the legs are way too thick for the body. They're dissproportionate to the neck/head and I feel it kind of offbalances the picture. My line of sight is totally drawn down to the legs, and not the lovely workmanship on the rest of the body. Just something to note in the future. I do know dinos had big thick legs; but in comparison their necks/heads were much thicker.

On the bottom piece, the only problem I can really see is in the tail. It gets very thin in one spot, and then thicker again. I know that in some viwes of slender critters (like snakes) this can happen, but the transgression looks far too sharp for my eyes.

Otherwise I really think they're great pictures. The shadings lovely on them, and I do believe you're improving (which honestly is a nice thing to see on the forums!). Good luck with future art.

Thanks :) I am trying to improve and I'm glad that is showing. i think one day I need to draw nothing but legs and feet. Perhaps I should do a google for refrence pictures.

I think I did have some kind of description at one time on my pets.

FlamingFireWasp is a buzz hyrbrid (due to it being a buzz in the past before I adopted it)

Serepity is a dragon hissi. The reason for the ambiguty is perhaps because I thought it was too good of a design to keep only as a neopet. I had created something that lacks the neopet features so I can feature Serepity in my Deviant Art gallery and my Cafepress shop without copywrite conflicts, but yet just enough that I can enter it in the beauty contest without getting rejected.

I could perhaps feature FlamingFireWasp that way too, but I haven't decided yet. The color scheme may still be too close to the spotted grarrl to get by with.

Oooh! :o

you know I've always adored your art, but...these are truly amazing. The Hissi, especially, is just breathtaking. I want to take it and love it and lock it up so it can be MINE! [/insane]

I agree with Requiem. I think the Hissi is just absolutely amazing... the colours, the detail, the shading, the position - it is really well thought out and it looks really nice. The only thing I would change is to make the background a little bit lighter. The green sort of annoys my eyes a little because it is a little too vivid. Other than that, the picture is spectacular. Keep up the good work =).

How's this?:

Image

I removed a semi transparent layor acting as a filter and tweeked the color balence in the tree leaf layor and the sky.

If it appears to be a major improvement I may also tweek the cafepress version as well.

Wow. It's a lot brighter, and as you said, a major improvement. It's really, really nice :D.
