Janine fell gracefully to a sitting position on the soft riverbank. She felt so alone, usually surrounded by so many courtiers, expecting to feel free- she only felt more closed in. Her eyes looked downcast, on the smooth water, the strange sunset cast weird lights on her jeweled gown. She swept up her hair in one movement and then let it fan out around her, as she carefully fell to a lying position on the riverbank. That felt better. She heard the soft rushing of water as her eyes shut, peace came over her.

(( Dun, dun, cue for someone to interrupt *shrugs* ;) ))

The child took absolutely no notice of the man who had opened the door, but instead fixed his peircing gaze upon the young lady-elf inside. His eyes flitted across the room, noting various unprocessed materials, dyes and plants that would soon converted into an assortment of pigments.

He noted with interest the many different forms of paper and parchment, most of which were a greater masterwork than anything that would ever be written or drawn on their surface. He made a mental note to return to this shop and buy a page or two. Sheafs of this quality would be a dream to work with. His glance about was brief, and his eyes finally came to rest once more on the she-elf, giving her an apprasing stare.

"I take it you are the owner of this establishment?" he asked, and without waiting for an answer he continued, "I shall not occupy you for long. I simply wish to know if there is anywhere nearby that I might buy food and a place to rest for the night. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated."

Shade smiled as Caress agreed to his request for a walk. He started walking along the path, but looked back towards the cottage, where he saw a crow flying around. He wondered what it was doing, then recalled that Caress had been staring at the crow only minutes before.

They walked along silently for a while, but Shade didn't really mind much. He was accustommed to stillness, anyways, and besides, that meant he could hear and see more. Or even think.

"So... do you have any place that you want to go to specifically? Because I don't, really. Actually, I was just walking around because I left magic class earlier today." They had almost reached town; the girl's cottage wasn't too far away from it. He smiled as he thought of what his parents would say if they saw him with a complete stranger. "My dad usually gets back from work really late in the evening, and that's the time that my class is supposed to end, so I usually go back home then. Most of the time I have nothing much to do if class ends early, though."

He glanced over the town, where most people were leaving, erasing the 'Open' on slate signs which were hanging on their doors and replacing them with the word 'Closed'. He managed a faint laugh. "Nothing really to look around at, now that it's night time." The wind was growing stronger, and he gave his hair a faint brush. "So, where do you want to walk?" he said again.

{ blah, so uninspired. Sorry if I seem to be god-modding a little, it's SOO hot here and I can't concentrate or think at all. Anyways, boy, Shade, do I have plans for you >=P. }

Ristalia neglected to respond for a few seconds, taken aback by the child's extremely mature language usage and demeanor. He certainly sounded much, much older than he looked. And he was also certainly very, very determined.

"I am the owner of this establishment," Ristalia said, now again in her more quiet voice. As she repeated his words she still could not quite comprehend they had been spoken by one so young.

"There are no reputable lodgings or places to purchase food terribly nearby. However if you do not mind walking several blocks, there is an Inn I know of, though I have never stayed there. I have only heard good things spoken about it, supposedly it is run by kind family," at this point, Ristalia smiled at the young boy. "I can direct you to this Inn if you wish."

"I suppose I will tend to some matters" said Jackdaw, ever the patient customer. "I will check in on the morning," he finished as he walked into the twilight, ready to face yet another night alone in a quiet hollow of oak trees. Before anyone could formulate a response, he had left sight, leaving the words behind, "Maybe we can talk after I have bought the book."

Jackdaw crept through a patch of walnut trees and to this particular hollow an hour later in the darkness. The nettles made the hollow nearly impassable, but he managed just fine, having cut his own weaving path through it. He then ducked into the dirt and into a small tunnel, where he opened a birch box and pulled a few coins out between various other items. "Good thing I rarely need money," he thought to himself as he found himself with very little. It would be more than enough for the book.

The boy bowed slightly in acceptance, then stepped aside as the man exited into the deepening dusk. The boy stiffened, as images flitted across his vision, varied and incoherent. As soon as they had come, the visions ended, within the span of the man's single passing step.

The boy turned his head slightly to watch the man's retreat out of the corner of his eye, while the dog sniffed at the stranger, but allowed him to pass without incident. The child quickly returned his attention to the she-elf.

"Mata bless you, for your kindness," the boy said, "Yes, I would greatly appreciate directions to this place."

((Aye, his geneology is rather questionable, but it is of little consequence in the respect of his abilities. He only has the blood in his veins, no powers or strengths beyond that of any other magical mortal. The only real difference between him and any other mage child is his unusual intellect and extensive vocabulary.))

Caress walked along with Shade down the path in silence for a while, enjoying the feel of the breeze as her silken clothes flapped around her. She did not mind walking around barefoot in the least, and though the bottoms of her feet were not rough and hard, they were never cut or harmed in any way no matter what kind of surface she trod on. As to this she had no idea why, though she assumed it was related to something magical.

She listened as Shade spoke. He had talked of himself quite a bit, and Caress felt a little guilty when she remembered that she had revealed almost nothing about herself, while this boy had been so open.

He asked her where she would like to go. Of course, Caress liked the wilderness, as they were filled with animals, but she was unsure as to whether Shade would be uncomfortable with the idea.

However, she pointed to a fork on the road anyway. 'If we take the right path, it will lead us into a forest.'

Bubbles fluttered to the surface of the otherwise calm river. They bobbled around for a few moments before popping in a soft stacato. As suddenly as they had appeared, they stopped, the last one bursting with a loud pop. With that, all was silent--a large, almost pregnant pause thickened the air, building tension before--

WHOOOOM

A a glittering, scaly, bright magenta body burst forward from the watery depths crying joyously, "Behold! Sir Maddox Alexandria Magwitch Jehosephat Marley LXVIII, Traveling Mermaid Minstrel Extraordinaire has arrived! Prepare to be dazzled, to be spell-bound, to be awed speechless by my poetic prowess! Whatever you wish, be it a quick rhyme in the nick of time, or a quick snack and a heart atta--"

Maddox cut short her performer's spheel, suddenly noticing a copious lack of an audience. There was no one but one long haired girl in a flowy, bejeweled gown.

"Er, hullo."

Terran entered the shop quickly, pausing when he entered. His gaze swept quickly over the shop - stopping only once as he gazed uncertainly at a younger boy and a dog - but he quickly decided that it was alright to be there.

He wandered over to see what was on display - his mother would want a certain type, he knew, but he wanted to see what other papers were here before heading back home.

((Sorry for the length - it would have been longer, but it's quite a headache typing with the on-screen keyboard. Although I wouldn't necessarily call it typing...))

Ristalia opened her mouth to bid the young man a farewell, but her words died in her throat with the rapidity of his exit. His final statement bounced round in her head, and she looked after him for a few moments before turning her attention to the boy once more.

Directions..., she thought, trying to think of the simplest way to direct the child to the Inn (and also avoid the more unsavory parts of town). It was also now thoroughly dark outside, and she was just about to offer to escort him there herself, since the way wasn't particularly obvious and her directions would not be the best as she had not traveled to the Inn for several years now, when a teenaged boy entered her shop quickly. So much for closing the shop ontime, much less early, she thought. The teenaged boy started perusing the paper and Ristalia came around the counter and over to the other boy's side.

"I'll take you to the Inn myself, once I've helped this customer," she said in a hushed voice, wondering when she was ever going to have time to finish the journal for the young man who had been there earlier by daybreak the next day. "Please, wait inside. It should only be a few minutes."

With that she walked over to the teenaged boy, in her delicate elvish way, amazed at the sudden popularity of her shop, and asked "Can I help you, sir?"

((yikes Twiz, an on-screen keyboard?! that does sound like a headache!! oh, and I hope you don't mind the fact that the Inn I've been referring to is none other than yours :D))

Lerany blinked at the creature that emerged from the water. It seemed to be a mermaid. She watched as it seemingly boasted about itself, then stopped suddenly and noticed her.
"Er, hullo." it said.

Blinking, Lerany was unsure if it was talking to her.
"Um, hi." she replied, squeezing some more water out of her robes. She then picked up her staff and shook some water of it aswell. This is as dry as I'm going to get.
Lerany then stood up, and had a look around. Where could she stay tonight?

The boy opened his mouth to assure her that an escort wouldn't be nessacary, but abandoned the phrase as she turned to help the newcomer. Casting about, he decided he had no other option and stepped inside the shop, to lean against the wall.

The dog clambered up the short steps inside the shop, and nuzzled the boy's leg. Looking down the child raised an eyebrow at his friend, who looked out the door into the night, and made a low growl.

"Paticence friend," the boy murmured, "We're in no hurry."

{ BTW, my timezone is GMT - 5, so I didn't miss a day. I made a post early in the morning, but I told jade later that I had writer's block and would not be able to reply until much later }

Shade followed Caress's finger as she pointed to a fork in the ground. "If we take the right path, it will lead us into a forest." Looking along the path she'd pointed, he noticed quite a feel things. The path was embedded with several large stones, on which the unwary could easily trip. Bending down and clutching the top of one of the red and yellow striped stones, he exerted a large amount of force -- Shade wasn't too strong -- before finally pulling it out.

He knew he must have appeared strange, stopping in the middle of no where and picking up a stone. He smiled, "Sorry about that, I just thought this looked nice." He started heading down the right path that Caress had indicated. He had been uneasy at first, but he supposed it was all right. He could probably learn a lot of things from this girl, anyways -- she seemed to know a lot about the forest.

"So, I've said a lot about myself, what about you?" he said, turning from the sparkling, striped stone to the girl. "Are you a student of any type of magic?" he asked as they walked ever deeper into the forest.

Maddox twitched, noticing the other girl. "Ah! An audience at last!" She grinned broadly. Wherever there were two people, there were bound to be more. Because two people didn't mean an uninhabited place; they meant a lot more must be nearby. Excellent. It had been a few days since she had last found a place to perform in; apparently, poetry wasnot as widely enjoyed as it had once been. But no matter; there were people, and then there were people.

"Come, my ducks!" she caroled. "We must find civilization! I have an exciting, new epic to tell--one of magic and the fey folk and dragons and true love and...and...BATS!" She pauses, grinning broadly. It was impossible to tell if she was actually being serious, or making up the contents of this new epic as she went along. "But away! The poem shall not tell itself in this wilderness!" She sticks two fingers in her mouth to whistle sharply. "Jeeves! My trolley!"

A glass case set on top of a rolling cart of sorts trundled out from the bushes where it had been concealed. After hopping inside, the mermaid straightens her burlap bag shirt before waving an arm and shouting, "Let us be off!"

((Ach, it is! And terribly slow as well. And no, I don't mind at all -- I had guessed that you were when the Inn first came up.))

"What? Oh! I was just looking... I mean, I'm here to get something as well, but I was just looking..." Terran floundered in surprise. He hadn't expected to be spoken to, and he paused as he regained his bearings.

"Sorry... um, do you have any of the paper with the small sunflowers on the top corners? That's the paper my mother likes, but I'm sure she won't mind if I get her a different type."

He paused again, and tilted his head slightly. "And excuse me, miss... but were you talking about an Inn?"
