"Mio, take advantage of this, you hear me?" Kaname-san* turned to look at her daughter as the car came to a halt. Mio sighed, rolling her eyes.

"Yes, Okaasan*. You've told me fifty times. This is a great opportunity, and I should be lucky to have it."

Her mother narrowed her eyes slightly. "You have to take this seriously. We didn't pay all that money to get you into a good school so you could waste it. Use this trip to gain experience. Don't sit there and draw the whole time."

Mio sighed again. "Of course, Okaasan...."

Kaname-san pulled up to the dock, then stepped out of the car to help Mio unload her luggage. She tutted at the sight of the sketchbook and pencil case, then called to one of the porters standing on the dock.

"Sir, take my daughter's bags on board, and make sure nothing is lost or broken." The man stared at the tiny Asian woman's imperious glare, then moved hastily to carry out her wishes. Mio blushed.

"Okaasan, it's okay, really....I can take the stuff in myself...."

Kaname-san smiled. "Nonsense, that's why they're here." She stood on tiptoe and kissed her daughter once on each cheek, then hugged her tightly.

"Abayo, Mio aijou. Ai shiteru*." She pulled away. Mio smiled, then gathered her sketchbook and pencil case and walked onto the ship.

Aminta rolled off of her bed and awoke with a start. She looked over at the digital clock, groaning. "What time is it... Five?" She sighed, and made her way downstairs to have a hot cup of tea. An hour later, Aminta was completely ready; but because of the early time, decided to wait at her house and read for a while. She curled up on her bed, a black kitten jumping up and laying himself down at her feet for a rest. She ruffled the cat's silky fur, who gave her a peeved look. She giggled, and reached for a book. She snickered as she read the title. "'The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle.' How ironic. A book about a ship. Oh well..."

The kitten mewed as Aminta picked him up. "Well, I don't know if cats are allowed on the ship. Don't worry." She placed the cat in an open suitcase on top of a couple of blankets, and the cat curled up and went to sleep. She delicately closed the worn suitcase, which had holes in it so the kitten could breathe easily. She had his veterinary records tucked in her backpack pocket, just in case; and a packet of cat food, bottled water and two bowl in a third suitcase, buried under her clothes.

A friend dropped by at around seven-thirty to help her with her suitcases. "Good luck in India, Aminta." he smiled at her. "Thanks Dan. And thanks for helping me with the suitcases." She grinned. "Ah, there's the harbour! And that's the ship I'm going to be traveling on." He nodded, taking all but one suitcase, and lugging them on board. He soon emerged, and grinned. She ran up and hugged him. "I'll miss you Dan." "Me too. Well, don't forget to write, okay Aminta?" "Alright." He pulled away, and walked off.

As Aminta waited for the others to arrive, she pulled out a book from her suitcase, which gave a disdainful mew; and dangled her feet through the railing. When Luke arrived, she looked up and waved, grinning. "Hey Luke!"

Luke looked up. His chaffinch, Peter, chirped merrily and flew to Aminta's shoulder. Peter pecked at Aminta's ear. He liked Aminta; Aminta was Luke's friend.

"Hey!" Luke replied, and walked up to Aminta. "Where did you leave your cat?" he asked. Peter looked round at the word 'cat'; he liked Aminta's cat, too.

Lila arrived at the port with her luggage. She stood in an empty space, looking around at all the busy people going to and fro. She finally settled down on Luke and walked towards him.

"Yo! Been two years since I saw you." Lila grinned. "Still as mean as before, turning a poor girl down." Looking at Peter, she let out a cute smile. "Hello there."

She suddenly realised that there was another girl next to Luke and turned slightly red. "Um. Hey uh... sorry about that. You are Luke's friend? Nice to meet you."

Aminta giggled as the chaffinch landed on her shoulder. "Oh, and hey there Peter. The kitten, erm..." The suitcase gave a loud mew, and a black nose stuck out of one of the fraying holes, followed by a paw through another hole. "Well, you have your answer." Just then, another college student came up to Luke, and started talking to him, not noticing Aminta at first. When she did, she looked rather embarrassed, and said sorry, asking her if she was Luke's friend. Aminta replied with a grin, "Yup, I'm a friend of Luke. Met him at Prissa. By the way, I'm Aminta. And you are...?"

Daisy arrived with her luggage and looked around at the boat-mates. They all looked like rather nice people; she'd like to meet them. However, her shyness kept her from speaking. She fingered her necklace uncomfortably, hoping that someone else would come over and talk to her. She didn't like to make the first move.

||You bugger people. XP. Here I was going to find a kitten on the ship. We shall be the cat clan, then. 'Cause I'm not abandoning my kitten.||

Eithne extended a hand.

"Hey, I'm Eithne. From Eden. College, of course. not...garden of."

Kat shook the hand. "Eden College, eh? I'm from Catrina Remembrance College myself." Kat looked round Eithne to the small group of people standing together, and to the few other other individuals, including a brown haired girl, and another brunette with a sketchbook. "Do you think we should introduce ourselves to everyone? If we're all going to be on this trip together, we should get to know everyone, instead of hanging around."

"Oh, sorry," Luke said quickly. He indicated Lila. "Aminta, this is Lila." Here, he indicated Aminta. "Lila, this is Aminta." He turned to Lila, and took a deep breath. "I'm sorry," he answered her. "I meant to call back, but... I'm just... forgetful. As you know. And usually late with things, too. I missed you, though."

He moved forward and took Lila into a one-armed hug, smiling. He let go of her, and said, "Well... we might as well introduce ourselves..."

Eithne gave a small nod.

"No point in being antisocial with people your stuck with." She said, offering up a small smile. She got to her feet, yawning widely and picking up her suitcase.

"'Lo all!" she greeted the small crowd. "I'm Eithne."

Lila smiled at Aminta; since she had been introduced, there was no need for her to keep rambling on. "Excuse me for a sec." And she turned to Luke and poked his arm. "Bah. You're always like that. I honestly have no idea what I expected from you. Seriously. Now stop hugging me and make other girls jealous." she gave him a little grin. "You do know you're the only male in this trip."

And she heard a little greeting from a girl called Eithne. Lila turned and spotted the girl, and she smiled and gave her a small wave.

No, no, no, no, no! Marie dejectedly put her forehead against the back of the seat. Things were not going as planned. She had woken up at five, she was always an early riser and never be late sort of person- and she was incredibly excited. She had pre-called for a cab, and with her luck they were late. And then they got caught in a traffic jam. And she was certainly not early. Finally, they arrived to the ship, and she started smiling- taking out her way too many bags of luggage and paying the cab driver. She took a breath and started toward a small group of people, still smiling. Marie dragged her luggage awkwardly, making her way slowly toward the others.

Eithen gave a smile in return, flahing white teeth in a friendly manner. She took a couple of steps, joining the group. She cast a quick glance over her shoulder at Kat, then turned again to face the small gathering of people.

"Hey all." she said, a simple enough greeting.

[Amethyst - I can't seem to find "Abayo" in the dictionary O.o Yes, I am a weirdo for looking it up (but hey, I knew all the other phrases you used and was annoyed that I didn't know that one xP)]

The taxi rolled smoothly to a stop. Illyne gently tugged her right earphone out and paid the driver. He hurried out to take her suitcase out from the back as she stepped out. The driver set her suitcase beside her and then got back. The cab drove off.

Illyne, one earphone from her iPod still dangling and the other still in her ear, gave a grin, brushing part of her blue-streaked curtain of black hair behind her ear as her eyes glinted almost evilly. She pulled out the handle from her suitcase and walked over to a small group of people around her age, presumably her companions for this India-trip.

Kat followed Eithen up to the small group. "Howdy" she said, looking them all up and down and smiling, then realising how messy she must look. Kat ran a hand through her hair, rubbed the sleep from her eyes, smoothed down her t-shirt (today's had a Skull and Crossbone design on it) and said "I'm Kat, from Catrina Remembrance College." Kat watched the others introduce themselves and began to get a bit fidgety. She wondered when they'd meet the Captain and his crew.
