Imagine my surprise upon entering the HC and the words on many people's lips (or fingertips or keyboard or what-have-you) were Neopets Premium (or in the case of the HC "What is neopets premium????"). Neopets premium had only a certain amount of slots available which discouraged many who wanted it from getting it. Apparently now those with neopets premium can give out referrals, up to 15 or 10 I believe (I've heard both??). I'm going to copy and paste what the gracious owner of Leto has put on their petpage concerning this.

Quote:
Most of us know that premium neopets will be open to the public in only a matter of time. We are simply beta testers of a service that while hopefully generate enough revenue to keep the site going and free for everyone who chooses to play for free.

As a step in that direction, neopets has enabled a referal program, giving vetran premium members 10 referal spots so that they might invite friends or other users to join in the premium experience without having to wait for an opening.

Who can refer?

Sorry. Only users that were beta testers prior to May 26th, 2005 are allowed to send referals.

If you recieved the option to send referals, you should have recieved a neomail from theneopetsteam informing you of this.

If you have been a beta tester prior to the May 26th and haven't recieved the option to refer users, it may be a glitch. Email tech support (mailto:techsupport@neomail.com) and sit tight, hopefully you will be able to soon.

Easy Access To Referal Links!

Refer A Friend | Referal Reward Status | Referrals Left: X

Prizes!

Note: Prizes will not be awarded until June 1st. Until that time no one knows what they will be or look like :)

For each of the first five referals that purchase Premium Neopets, the user who refered them will recieve one of the following:
* 1st Referral = Neopoints
* 2nd Referral = Lucky Charm
* 3rd Referral = Paint Brush
* 4th Referral = Unique Avatar
* 5th Referral = Unique Sidebar

-smirk- I thought that said Lucky Charms.

But, yeah, a unique sidebar and avatar? ;_; I wish I could pay for premium.

Darn, beta portal users can't partisipate (I'm not suprised but still.) I really don't think offereing avatars and sidebars is really that fair, not all of us want to support Neo's endevor.

I would neopets premium if I could just for the sake of free items and probably better protection for my account. Its four years old, I don't want it getting randomly iced.

Hi, was finally able to get here :D

Ok, it is 10 referrals and yes alot of people are getting that weird error message. Some people who were invited have to keep trying, as they keep getting the "beta testing full" message.

The thing with the referrals is, let's say you do invite 10 people, only 2 sign up and only 1 actually pays. You don't get any unused referrals back and you don't get anything if the person signs up, then cancels within the 15 day free trial. So it's not perfect. But it is a start for people who really do want premium and are willing to pay for it.

The other thing is that the invitation is for the web package with the dial-up at $15.99 a month, so once you sign up, you go and "downgrade" to just the portal pack for $7.99 a month.

I have not referred/invited anyone yet. First of all because I'm getting the glitch page and second because I would only invite people who were serious about signing up and paying. And I'd just as soon wait until tomorrow when the office is open just to be sure anyone I did invite was able to just go to the url and get signed up with no problems.

That said, if there is anyone here who is truly interested in/wants premium, please do pm me as I do have referrals.

Whether to go premium or not is an individual decision. I hated the idea of it and was actually totally against it when it was first announced. The whole "pay to play" thing was like :roll: But to be honest, now that I am premium, I really DO like it and to me it is worth the $7.99 a month to help support the site where I spend most of my time. And yes, I did have to think carefully about that money, as I am on a fixed income.

Just my 2 cents, whatever that's worth :P

I am very tempted by premium myself but I guess I'm just not sure enough about it to go for it. The only reason I'm half tempted is because of the great exchange rate for me here in the UK. The fact I could still get falsely frozen without warning and have to go through all the palaver to unfreeze myself despite being premium is mostly what is putting me off. Along with the fact I'd have to get myself a credit card, heh, as I only have a debit card.

With this referral business at the moment though I guess I should give this some greater thought than I had done previously - just in case :)

Darn. When I first read it, I had the odd idea in my head that you could get it free with referrals. Now that I understand you have to pay for it, I guess I won't be able to. I don't really have the money and I don't believe my parents would pay for it (Nor would I really want them to have to spend their money on it).

Ah well. For everyone that does get it, have fun!

I understand that premium is still under beta testing mode and I have seriously though about it for months and months but i'm not sure I want to pay at all for neopets. The ads don't really bother me that much if at all.

I do hope that when premium is out of beta mode that the price will go down.

Lisa

P.S. Could someone explain the different premium types?

Well, I did a google search and found this petpage, talking about Premium.

Hopefully that helps!

Well if the dial-up service is unlimited and better than our current service that is $2 cheaper, I may be able to talk my dad into it, but I highly doubt it.

I can't read the further information on the service without coming to a page saying there are no openings available. I really do not like that. I wish I could see the information on the services without having to be directed to that page :x
