This is another instance of TNT's blatant ignorance when it comes to knowing how to properly run a public, majorly travelled site. The warning can easily be abused by idiots to freeze innocent people. "You are continuously being given ... autobought rarity 99 items for cheap."

Now put your logic caps on, read further, and see how stupid TNT is.

First: TNT can tell that the items were autobought. That brings up an interesting question - Why was the sender, who autobought the items, not frozen immediately? Are they assuming that there's an autogiver too, so that people can autobuy, then autosend the items to alternate accounts? If so, they need to check for an autosender as well, not just an autobuyer. In reality, a user who uses an autobuyer (that TNT knows about) should have been frozen before he even had a chance to send someone the items.

Second: There are a lot of idiots in the world, a lot of people who find joy in making other people's life miserable. Let's say Joe Idiot uses an autobuyer to buy a lot of r.99 items. TNT knows they're autobought, but for some ******** reason, they don't freeze Joe Idiot immediately, so Joe Idiot has a chance to send his items. Joe Idiot says "Hey, people can get frozen for being sent a lot of autobougth r.99 items. _________ (insert random innocent/rich person here) could be frozen if I send them a whole lot of my autobought items!" And then, Joe Idiot decides to send 5 autobought items to the victim, waits what he thinks is long enough for the other user to get a warning, then sends another five. Oh look, an innocent user gets frozen because some idiot sent them autobought items, and TNT is stupid enough not to have frozen the user who used the autobuyer in the first place.

If it wouldn't be for the fact that I generally try to keep a low profile on Neopets, and therefore am not too terribly worried about this stuff, I'd probably quit Neopets based on this kind of stuff.

For some people, 125k isn't exactly a lot. But, if you suspect they're autobought, or something like that. Can't you block people sending you items somewhere?

Mon May 16, 2005 12:49 am

I'm always randomly sending people stuff, it's fun. Once I gave away a codestone and the person sent me back a plushie pb :D there are some kind people out there.

Mon May 16, 2005 1:55 am

Someone once gave me a PLUSHIE PAINT BRUSH because I was answering newbie's questions and giving them codestones. I was like, 'WHOA!'

Mon May 16, 2005 3:22 am

I have a few folks in mind to send some stuff to (as random acts of kindness) and now you get warned for it? Excuse me, but what the heckle-jeckles is TNT thinking?!

Gosh darnit :x NOW what am I supposed to do?

*sends a Howler to TNT's mailbox*

I'm thinking if the block option in neomail stops them from neomailing you and offering on your trades, then maybe it also stops them from sending you things? o_O

If you go to site preferences you can choose to only have neofriends send you items. that's where you decide what you do and don't want - like guild/neofriend invites, neomail, battle challenges, etc.

Marinnai, a Howler? I love it!

This whole sending things to people can be a bit tricky. Even moreso if you share a computer ... not accounts! just a computer. Like my roomie and I do. Yes, I have written to support and told them there are 2 people and gave all the info I could. Yes, I did get a very nice response (which I've saved). But at the same time, my roomie was itching to send me something and I found out about it. Told her no way, to never, ever send me anything. That's how some people end up frozen for multi-accounts.

On the other hand, I have been known to just randomly send things to people if it's someone I talk to often, see that they collect something or if I see someone being really nice or really patient. Not a pb, you understand, I don't have that kind of np. But just a little something, it's fun to surprise people, isn't it?

It's just kind of sad that we have to stop and think or worry about the item, like if it's over, say 100k, that a red flag is going to be set up. It's also sad that if one person does cheat and sends or sells something to someone else THAT person can get warned or frozen. It should only be the person who truly IS cheating (autobuyer, etc.) that gets penalized.

The Howler idea came from wanting to use something...anything...to tell TNT that they're acting like lazy children. It twigged when my mind drifted to that scene of Ron getting that Howler from his Mom in HP:CoS. What better way to announce to TNT that you're not impressed by their recent actions? >:]

Eee, now I'm worried. I've had people (my fiance and various neofriends) send me things like dubloon coins, codestones and petpet paint brushes. Gee, TNT, THINK before you make a rule this stupid, why don't you?

I think the trading post should be used to give people unbuyable items. That way it's all "legal" and doesn't bring attention to your account. You would just have to neomail someone and tell them to "pick up" the item you left sitting in the TP. :P

Mon May 16, 2005 10:19 am

I wish someone would give me anything as a Random Act of Kindness.

It'd be sweet if I logged on one morning to see a paintbrush, a scorchstone, a honey potion, anything worthwhile from someone just because they felt like being nice.

Mon May 16, 2005 4:38 pm

I never get any good stuff either... :(

DOes people hate my user?

Mon May 16, 2005 4:49 pm

This one guy gave my former guild leader(wrongly frozen) a faerie pant brush for free :o

Agrees with Xerophyte, if you do want to give someone something that is expensive, the tp I believe is the best way to go.

Of course that is not perfect either, but I think it's safer. Someone I know just got frozen for using more than one account to earn np. They do share a network at home with I believe 3 or 4 other people who all play on the site. Weird thing is, no one else got frozen, nor did her side storage account. And she said (and I do believe her) that nothing had been sent to her main or other account in any way and that no one had sent her anything. So we're all pretty baffled.

She did say that she had gotten to the point of any time she wanted to send, even through the TP, an item to someone else in the house for a birthday or holiday, that she writes to support and waits for an answer before sending. Now that's just sad that we have to think about doing that just to send someone a gift.

I got a couple of great items recently from a generous person that accomplished a couple of my goals on neo outright. It was really very nice of them :)

I think as far a sending items goes, as long as you know the person, that they aren't sending you stuff regularly or frequently and that you know they got the nps legit (if you don't know them) then it's okay. Someone you know or have no reason to distrust sending you something out of the blue is usually not going to harm you, especially if you know the person =) But TNT needs to relax also :/

The one thing I never do it send stuff to my other accounts like petpets or petpetpets, I use the TP for that to avoid suspicion as well as having it written in huge writing on all my lookups that I have the legit number of side accounts for legit purposes etc.

I occassionally log on powerpets and give a million or so out to a newbie...

When I first made my account, the game had JUST started, and I bought something that at that time was like a neopet petpet... i logged on a year later to find they were worth millions :D ...

I never really got to like the game, so I've been giving stuff out randomly since i sold it...

random acts of genorosity are fun... they make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside...
