Just because you CAN do those things doesn't mean you should. Being 18 just means you have more freedoms. No one is going to forbid you to ruin your life, you are welcome to do whatever you want. And probably even encouraged to "have a bit of fun". Yeah, there is nothing wrong with having fun, but sometimes you think "I can do whatever I want with my life, and it hurts no one else." But in many ways, your own actions can hurt others. Because someone out there who is younger might think you are cool and you might be their role model. Or you could get into an accident and hurt others.

Lots of people just want to "celebrate" being legal by doing something a little naughty because they can, but that is also how addictions start. The best thing to do is never start, then you'll never get addicted. And there are lots of addictions, not just alcohol. Porn, gambling, and and other things can be addicting.

Just remember you can do whatever you want to, but just try to ask yourself if it really makes you feel proud to be doing that, or will you look back on your life and think it is the worst mistake you ever made?

19 candles, one for good luck. ;)

Well have fun being 18, even if you don't do any of those things. I know the night I turn 18 I am driving to my local 7-11 and buying a lottery scratch off card and then saving it forever. Why? I don't really know, it just sounds like something to do. O___O
In NJ/USA you have to be 21 to drink, which I think is a really random number. Why 21? Why not 20?

I know i'm not going to do everything that I can, i just want to know what all i can so I can pick it out. I know i'm going to do some of those things, like i'm buying my friend a pack of cigarettes. I can control myself.

I live in America, so the drinking age is 21, and so is the gabling age around here at least. Or I would go to the casino around here, order a beer and play the slots lol.

This should be quite a fun birthday, I don't know If i'll have a cake, this one is a little strange, i'm not stable yet, just moved in with my boyfriend and haven't gotten a job, so I don't know what i'll be doing in that perspective. But i'm sure I can make it fun just the same. It also seems as though he is going to try to make it special as well. He actually just went out to get me something hehe.

Yay for being 18!! Soon anyway!

Happy(early) Birthday!! You know, I don't even remember what I did on my 18th LOL. I think I stayed home and had a drink, and watched some movie by myself. I've been out of the house since I was 16 though. My 21st, BF took me out to eat and I have one drink, then we went home. I guess I did all the crazy(sometimes stupid) stuff when I was younger, so I got it all out of my system.

BTW, I live about 4 hours from you, in Kansas. :D

Well over here, once you turn 18, you can do pretty much everything.

Unless it's killing someone or something along the lines of that. :P

Congrats, I turned 17 yesterday :D

In the Netherlands it's:
16- buy cigarettes and alcohol
17- nothing at all! Yay!
18- drive a car, get your own home, vote, buy porn.

Happy birthday!
You can hang out with the few of us that have turned 18 recently: me, Scottnak, Nik... okay. I can't think of anyone else.
And the only things I could think of to do when I turned 18 was to buy cigarettes, porn, or lottery tickets. And I haven't done any of them. Maybe I'll buy a scratcher today to make up for it. :P

Happy Birthday!

Rumor has it that doing most of that stuff could hurt you.

Anyway, happy b-day! I'll try to find something in my acc.

WRONG!!! I'm fuming over this so I need to correct you

I was born in 1989 just to tell you why this is SO annoying!

In england it's

16- Sex, Cigerettes, Gambling, Marrige (with permission of parents)
17- Provisional Drivers Licence, Drivers licence (if born before 1/1/1989)
18- Drivers Licence (If born After 1/1/1989) Porn, Alchol, Clubs, Marrige (w/o permission)

It's been passed lately... I screamed then cried when I heard. I can't get it next year because of my smegging birth year!!!!

You can get married at 16 without consent in Gretna Green (South of Scotland as it says).

You can get married at 16 without consent in all of Scotland, it's only in England & Wales that you need consent until you are 18. Gretna Green is famous for marrying many elopers as it's so near the border with England.

For quite a few things in Scotland you are considered a legal adult and no longer a minor at 16, living alone, various laws and so on :)

Wiki had an article on Gretna specifically, so that's what I used.
