Now I am really mad! :x

The only site I was on was Neopets. A popup for Toys-R-Us came up. On the page I was on in Neopets (at Wise Old King) was the banner ad for the same Toys-R-Us promo.

So much for Neopets' promise of never having popups.

Am I the only one who is seeing TNT doing all the things they promised they would never do and not doing all the things they did promise to do?

:x

Well, I'm sending off the first letter for Project Pillsbury sometime this weekend, so maybe that'll help.

And you are positive you do not have spyware?

You should use the report form that was set up just for the ads. There have been at least 2 other instances (that I know of) of pop-ups. I do recall that Adam happened to be reading a topic about them and did get those removed. He DOES care about the site and about us, I truly and firmly believe that he, Donna and all of the staff do care and try their best.

Unfortunately, if they're using a ad network (which most sites do), sometimes things can sneak in. Yes, I believe Neopets or any other site is ultimately bottom-line responsible for the content if it is intrusive, inappropriate, violent or, in this case, a pop-up. But if no one tells them about it when something is seen, then they can't try to fix it.

They are. You don't control which companies have ads on the network, so Neopets cannot stop ads about pregnant actresses and the like from coming up. Nor can they entirely stop companies from making pop-ups. Adam and Donna care, but they're not all powerfull.

Then why have things in the past been fixed and removed? Obviously, someone has the power to fix things like this and they do fix them.

Like someone above said, the ad companies break their contracts and shove stuff in at times. The best way to solve it is to use the report form they have set up. Because I'm sure that if someone from Neopets said take that ad off or else, the ad company will listen considering how much of a great place Neopets is for ads.

REPORT BAD BANNERS HERE: http://www.neopets.com/s/index.phtml?cat_id=28

It's the only way to get things right. Making boards like this won't really help because I highly doubt Adam comes here daily to look for this sort of thing.

This is another one of the reasons why I am AntiNeopian, Neopets does not keep all promises.

Tracking cookies, spyware, 3 banner ads, and now popups... the site does not care about users anymore, only profit.

Illyria, I too have gotten spyware from the site. I am super vigilant as to what sites I go to and keeping up to date with my anti-virus and spyware detector/removers, as well as security updates.

My computer had been reformatted, everything clean installed, I ran test scans of everything (McAfee, ad aware, spybot, aol spyware detector, CWshredder and I have spywareblaster) - all clear.

Went to the site (after being without a puter for almost 2 weeks I was dying!), my spyware ran as scheduled and there was spyware. Not a happy camper.

I don't know what you guys do... but I have never gotten any spyware from Neopets. I run routine scans with Spybot and nothing ever shows up.

it's not spyware, it's spying cookies.

I sincerely doubt that merely surfing the Neopets site will get you the 180searchassistant and other spywares. They must have come bundled with some new programme you installed after reformatting, Illyria.

I have never gotten spyware or adware from neo before, I think that is only possible if you click on certain banners. However I use Firefox, so that may cause some difference.

Note that tracking cookies =/= spyware.
