Well, we all know that the shops are numbered throughout a system so that they restock right after one another.

ex. Food Shop is #1 shop, and it restocks right on the 00th second (if and when it restocks), then followed by Magic (#2), Toy (#3) and etc.

But, while looking for shops to restock in so that I wouldn't get the 5 sec rule when restocking in over 2 shops, I wondered what the 6th shop was. I knew that Grooming was #5 and Book was #7, but I searched everywhere in the main marketplace and the bazaar, and found nothing. I even did a google URL search and found nothing.

So I propose to you, what and where could this 6th shop be?

Perhaps a deleted maraquan shop?

The shops in the Volcano (If there was any)
Did the hidden tower always stock like that? If not, it could've been. *shrugs*
It was, afterall, the number six. *cough*

Hmm..that would make sense, but there was more than one shop in Maraqua (I know there was utility fish and petpets atleast) because I was around when Maraqua was still thriving, but if there were atleast two shops, if one was 6, then why would the other not be 5 or 7?

Could it be one of those commercial shops, like "McDonalds" or the cereal store? Perhaps they deleted one at some point...

I don't believe so, because since I have been on neopets 3 years, in the beginning they did not have sponsors, and I still remember the book shop being #7, and grooming #5 (back then the shops atleast had something, and I would always go browse through things for faerie quests), and I believe those sponsor shops weren't around back then. The first sponsor thing I remember them having was the Rainbow Fountain, where you had to sign up for a sponsor for the ability to paint your pet any color you wanted (two for a species change), and the rest was pure Neopia.

Yep, I remember those days...*reminisces*.. I've never been a restocker, so I didn't know if the shop numbers had changed or not. Don't suppose it has anything to do with the Mystery Island plot, like everything else?

I don't know about the MI plot, because that is when I had quit neo for about a year and some months. But I didn't restock either(didn't know about it!) and I just went in looking for my quest items.

Missing shops. Cool. Anyway, i was around when Maraqua was still alive and running. There were really a number of shops around 3 or 4 i think. In the past, TNT could maybe not have configured the shop numbers so... they jumped around. Not sure though

Actually, it USED to be a shop, though I don't remember which one. Note the banner up there that says, "Not a shop."

If it had never existed, it would instead have a big x there, just like shop number 410, or 99, or any other non-active number.

EDIT: And Video Rentals is number 11.

I think I have come up with an explanation. This also tallies with my early memories of neopia (been on neo for 4+ years)

Shop 6 was probably the original link to Arcade (now Games Room)
and
Shop 19 was probably the link to Treasure Hunt (map piece hunting)
and
Shop 33 was possible link to Grundo's Gym.

Anyone got more ideas?
