What the $%?! is TNT thinking?
I mean, they have an editorial last week where Donna says what we all know -- that the cost of painting pets is out-of-control -- and that they're looking into ways to make it easier to get paintbrushes without totally smurfing off everyone who's painted pets at the higher prices. (Good luck with that, but I think the price of PBs needs to go down even if some people end up being upset. Even if one of the people who ends up being upset is me.)
Then they come out with yet another painted pet avatar, which is guaranteed to raise the price of yet another PB through the roof. (Although at least it's any pink pet, which means a better chance of getting an appropriate pet through the lab than the Island and Orange avatars.)
I just sometimes wish I knew what they were thinking when they release avatars like this. Assuming they're thinking. Inflating random items like popcorn or garlic bread doesn't bother me so much -- I think it mostly affects people who happen to have a related gallery, which isn't nearly so many people, and if the items were pretty common thy don't get pushed up into the "impossible-to-afford" range. But inflating really basic, useful items like PBs, MPs and transmogs... that's another story. A lot of people want to use these items to play with thier pets -- you know, the thing that the site is supposed to be all about -- and the PBs, at least, can inflate enough that people who rely on games for income really feel the sting (or may find that they can't afford their dream pet after all).
For that matter, I think even inflating petpets isn't a very nice thing to do... while I've made money off petpet inflation like everyone else, I remember when I was trying to find a reasonably priced Gallion to buy and how terrified I was that they're be "Gallion Day" with a Gallion avatar, and that I wouldn't be able to afford my Gallion in the wake of it.
Maybe they really are trying to drive the site into the ground.

Hmm, so that's two avatars I missed by adopting out my Pink Lenny. Oh, well, he was on a secondary account anyway.
*applauds* Well said. All of it.
I don't mind having to work for the things I want, that's part of what makes the site fun. When I don't have a goal to strive for, I get very bored with it.
But I do wish they would just cut us a bit of slack. It's very hard to get ahead in this game unless you put forth quite a bit of effort. And personally, when I start to put forth that required effort, it stops being fun and starts being work. I dunno about you guys, but I don't like having to WORK at something that's supposed to be recreational. And I'm sorry, but I don't feel that should mean that I have to give up on the few nice but very expensive things that I'd like to have.
