I just hope is is NOT another war where they release a limited number of easy-to-beat challengers (20,000 or whatever) and we all have to rush to kill them. I've seen different suggestions on other boards:

There could be different opponents for different skill levels (for example, a pet with the 85 strength boost would get opponents around that level, while a pet with the 700 boost would get opponents around that level).

We don't use our own pets to fight, but pre-assigned characters with their own (Maractite) weapons. Or we use our own pets and are assigned weapons depending on skill level (beginners get better weapons to make up the difference).

We're allowed to fight only a certain number of each type of challenger, and low-level pets are allowed to fight more of the easy challengers than higher-level pets are.

Etc.

That has been my guess from the very beginning...stupid comments like making it "fair" and "lots of pirates" just seems to be what they are shooting at...I guess instead of fighting minions...we become minions...I guess it would even things out. I just wonder if your "character" would level up or have a way to get better weapons...It will be interesting.

unless they are TOTALLY designing the war to make it fun, new, and different...... i hate the fact that they are trying to make it "fair." I dont have weak pets... but my pets arent extremely strong either. Ive worked very hard to get my pets where they are.... and they arent amazingly strong... my points have always been in the low hundreds. Imagine those people who DO have strong pets..... they must work SUPER hard to get their pets there. There arent many free rides on neopets, if any. There is no unfairness.... if people have strong pets, then they WORKED to get their pet that way, so they worked hard and deserve the points they recieve..... and ive worked hard to train my pets.... so they better not change it too much.

That's how I feel too, TWW. My battle pet is just about at the 85 strength boost, and I'm happy with that. I know I don't deserve as many war points as the people who spent a ton of time and NP to hit the 200 boost or the 700 boost or whatever, and I don't mind that they get better prizes. They earned them.

I do think they need to do something to make wars more fun for lower-level battlers and for new people who've just joined Neopets and want to participate in the war -- but it should not be at the expense of the experienced battlers. The elite battlers should still get more points and better prizes. TNT needs to work out a way to balance it and keep most of us happy.

Unless there is a system were either a) everyone is assigned a character (battler) with pre-set weapons depending on the side you choose; or b) you get to pick a pet (if you have more than one) and that pet only can battle using, again, pre-set weapons (how will they do this one and keep OUR weapons?) and that pet can only battle whatever opponents are in the same stats - there is no way to make a war fair. At least not IMHO.

Now, I've only battled in one war - the last one. That poison really took a toll quickly, so we can only hope that kind of thing won't happen again.

I can't decide if I should unequip my "battle" pet, or think about using one of my weaker non-battling pets or what.

I'm with the people who actually don't want a war this time. It's too soon after the last one, there's still lingering hard feelings and too many doubts about this "making it fair" thing. They will need to really explain this one before they go implementing anything so people at least have the information and can decide if, in fact, they do want to participate.

Also agrees with Chao - from my limited battling, brute force might be ok if you're just trying to wipe out one player opponents for points, but for 2 player, strategy along with training and weapons and abilities (though those are being really limited now) are all important.

Why haven't they done that from the beginning of wars and battledome, I say that after you win so many battles your levels should up. I mean there are training schools, but schools aren't the only way to learn are they?

Maybe...

Pets will be too scared and ask their cut petpets to fight it out in a brawl! :roflol:

Or...

Users will be sent into the fray! A Good Ole Game of... GO GO GO! :roflol:

::goes to practice go go go::

i kind of figure, what's the point of making it fair? when the people with advantages have (generally) put a lot of work in to getting them?

The new editorial clarifies things:

In the last editorial you said that you came up with a new system for war that'll mAKe things more fair for the weaker pets. I don't think this is fair though to the people who spend time and np to get their pets up to where they are and then have some person who doesn't even know how to battle get close to as many points as them. - pyrowave13

It is ok. Just wait and see :D The people with the stronger pets will be able to challenge different opponents, and earn more points from that as a result. It just means that if you have a weaker pet there will still be something for you to fight and hopefully plenty of things all all levels of battling to please everyone.

That makes me happier. It sounds like new battlers won't be able to gain more points than experienced ones, but they will be able to fight more opponents than they could in previous wars. This is fine by me. We'll see how it plays out!
