Okay, for the first time ever, I was able to make it as far as the fourth round of Kacheekers. I got my neomail last night and droped a line to the guy I was supposed to play. The game was going okay, it was a good game.
Then, somehow my opponant was able to make two turns in a row. Now I know that normally, when you jump a piece, if there is another jump available, you can continue to jump with that piece until no more jumps are available.
Quote:
8) 8. You can make a second, third or even forth jump after the first as long as you are moving forward. With a king, you can jump your opponent's pieces back and forth at will.
But that's not what happened. He moved two different pieces. It was like I completely missed a turn. I was really ticked off, but being hard-headed figured I would continue the game, even though I was now at a bad disadvantage.
A few turns later, I had crowned a piece and had one of his kings pinned down. I thought the game was turning around but then... he jumped one of his uncrowned pieces backwards over my king, taking it.
I played a few more rounds, then ceded the game, because I was losing badly and after losing my king I was in a really bad position. I submitted a bug report. I love playing checkers. I'm a pretty good player, I thought I knew the rules, but something is just not right with this game. You should not lose a turn at whim or be able to jump backwards with an uncrowned piece. It isn't worth it to wade through weeks of procrastinating opponants just to get cheated by the game.
1) I wish that they would put up a tournament tree so you can see who else is playing in your ranking:
Quote:
round 1_______round 2_______round 3_______round 4:
opponant 1
-----vs
opponant 2-------winner
----------------------vs-------------winner
opponant 3 -------winner
-----vs
opponant 4
----------------------------------------vs------------tournament winner
opponant 5
-----vs
opponant 6-------winner
----------------------vs-------------winner
opponant 7-------winner
-----vs
opponant 8
2) I wish they would shorten the time between rounds to 2 or 5 minutes once each player starts the game. They should have it in a battledome style setting, where you can have a pop-up window that lets you know when your opponant has arrived. Then the game starts and you have 2 minutes to make your move. If you can't deal with that, don't play in the monthly tournament, just play pick-up games.
3) I wish they would make a small NP prize for winning even a single game in the tournament. All this hassle isn't worth it. I could be making a lot more NP playing the shop wizard or restocking, even on my sad unleet computer/connection.
This last game just really torked me off. I was so happe to be doing well, and got totally blindsided, but a guy who claims he didn't even know the rules of the game. He made it to the 4th round by his opponants not showing up. Then he takes advantage of a bug, and I have to wait till next month to wait on the next procrastinating opponant.
Grrrrrr!
