I use the newest version of MSN messenger (I'm sure it's called beta. It's the one with the nudge and wink buttons anyway) but when a certain peron signs on a conversation window and what looks like a document folder flashes up (such as when you choose to upload a file). This makes my mouse work backwards for a while (ie right button becomes left button). Any idea why this is happening.
Also when I try to upload a file to photobucket or anywhere else the document window looks like it keeps refreshing as if someone is holding down the F5 button which means I can't click on a file or move to another folder, the only way I can get rid of it is to press the x in the corner. This also happens when I choose to open a file in paint shop pro. I can still get into my documents through the shortcut on the desktop and it doesn't keep flashing. Are these two things related and is there any way I can find out what's causing it?

EDIT: Kaspersky deleted it *kicks norton*

I'm not sure what's cauing that.. but the version of MSN Messenger you have is the beta. If you got it from the MSN website it'll be version 7.0.0425. You can check by opening main contact window. Help>About MSN Messenger and see the version number there. :)

Seeing as it is a beta though, it means there will still be bugs, so you might have to go back to using MSN Messenger 6.2 :)

Just in case, I would run a scan for viruses and spyware. That window thing sounds familiar. *hmmm*

If you are not an experienced user, don't bother with betas. The part of the Terms and Conditons where you state that you take full responsability for damage done to your computer by the software is to be taken SERIOUSLY. Uninstall it and download the most recent stable (official) release from Microsoft and run a virus and spyware scan.

There is a new internet worm circulating which transmits via sending files over MSN. Infected computers will be used to send infected files to their contacts, without the owner knowing. So, don't accept any files which look suspicious, even if they are from people you know.

I haven't downloaded anything from there but this might be what it is. Do you know the name of the virus so I can try and get rid of it? I think the window popping up is the virus trying to send itself (although I have nrton running so this shouldn't happen) I've already done a virus scan and only got two pieces of adware on my sisters account (I still need to delete those actually) and ad-aware got rid of the rest but it's still happening.

EDIT: WOAH, just went into my C drive and found this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v61/happysmileyfungirl/aaaa.jpg (I think there's one swear word and John Kerry as super chicken?) What should I do? Norton doesn't recognise any of this as a threat. I don't remember downloading any of this stuff (I don't download things from the internet usually. I'll need to ask my sister) I have no idea how to deal with this. My friend says I keep randomly trying to send him files (hence the window popping up) and he downloaded on to see what it was. He said it was an application so he deleted it immediately.

yeah, i heard something about this. there is a worm being sent through, currently, only MSN. I have this artical that he printed out saying that it is very dangerous, and to not open any files that is sends, or encourages you to open. they say that the safest thing to do is to avoide and IMing possable.

I already have the virus (I'm sure it was my sister since she's the only one that uses MSN  ) anyway, I think my computer needs reformatted so I'm getting someone to come help me with it since I'm pretty useless.
