I was there for the quiggle armageddon thing, but I never "got" it and actually thought it was real I like the april fool's thing about a fat monster in the cave...that would be hilarious.

I think they should have something like that. Obviously, your pet wouldn't get eaten and dissapear/die/go into a coma. But maybe HP damage? Like you would get a random event about a hungry Lupe nibbling the leg off of your chokato Chia and your pet would loose oooh say 10 HP? It would make things a bit more interesting. I suppose. That would be something to see, right?

Hm, also natural event disasters, you know? Like if you have a Fire Pet... suddenly it rains... and then it does whatever it does. o.o Take away HP sounds good...

They had announced an expansion to the TCG called "Quiguki Armeggedon". It seemed pretty elaborate since they created TCG art, a Card of the Day strategy, Buddy Icons and a How to Draw page
A shame they didn't keep the art around, very amusing stuff (although the Buddy Icons and the linked How to Draw Page remain available.)
