Every time you feed your pet, morph them, play with them, read to them, cure them, heal them, send them to the pound, take them to the shrine, mishaggle on that Icy Battle Duck, boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew, whatever- You get the same limited set of responses from your pets. Yeah, I know it's been this way since the site began, but I've gotten to thinking: What if we could adjust every aspect of our pet's personalities (if given the option) and have their responses to how we "interact" with them be based on what personality you gave them, and perhaps also on their degree of intelligence? I for one believe that this idea would definetly give the site a lot more depth by going beyond just what the user puts in their lookups, and the sort of drab and sometimes ungrateful (or even stupid) responses that we get from pets would be gone for those who wanted it, replaced by fresh comments. This doesn't have much a of a practical (as far as changing gameplay) aspect, though- Does anyone have thoughts on that?

Also, there really aren't many consequences for randomly abandoning and neglecting pets- Should any measures be taken to change that? Happiness seems to perpetually remain the same until a pet gets sick, and there are no consequences to being sick other than being unable to battle- it is this sort of thing that makes simply caring for the pets a monotonous, 1-dimensional chore at points, and it's the reason why people turn to chatting, pursuing superiority in the games room, Battledome, etc.

So what about it?

Whoa, that would be seriously awesome. I'd love to take my pet to the lab ray, and have it say, "LIKONGZERNO!one!!1"

But, yeah, i'm all for it!

Ooh, that sounds great. There should be a page where you can customize all your neopets' personal interests...great idea! And then you could even make it so, for example, if your main pet does not like to battle, you can't get into the battledome page etc. etc. xD

That would be so cool! I wish that could happen.

That would be one really cool thing neo could do to make the site a whole lot more interesting, but I doubt they would ever do it. It would take a long time to make something that interactive. Look what happened to neoschools. Compared to this, neoschools is a very simple thing to make. Though if they ever would do it, the site would probably become even more popular. I would definately be toward making it.

My Green Ruki, Brezenae, is the same. If I don't feed her for one day, the next day I log in she's unhappy. *sigh*

Pros
It'll encourage people to play with their pets more
It'll lower the number of pets in the pound (you can always pound a name, but pounding a personality is completely different).
It'll give the site more depth
It will make the site more enjoyable on the 'pet' aspect.

Cons
It'll force people to send their pets to better hotels (Cockroach towers will feed them, but it will only leave them mediocrely satisfied).
It'll result in a sudden upsurge of item prices.

Middle of the Line
It'll give the site a more RPG type feel.
It will further encourage people to log onto neo more often
It will result in more emotion if an account is scammed or frozen

There, thats just a few, but I reckon the pros outweigh the coins. The only other thing that will cause a pain, is the amount of time and money TNT will need to invest to get this up and running. I doubt it'd be as intensive as Neoschools, since it'll just be a larger number of pre-determined responses (but this time based on certain rules and parameters).

Yeah pets need to say more stuff. They should have a random contest or something to decide what pets say. Or have some kind of a box like the neopet word of the day thing. You enter a phrase for the pets to say and they enter the winning one in the database so pets say new stuff all the time. You'd never know what they'd say next. Pet pets too. It would be a lot more fun.

Hey, I really like that Neopet Word of the Day idea. The best word or phrase is added into the database. Sounds good :)
