Aren't most award things based on popularity anyway? :P
Besides, you were barely allowed to advertize, so you can't say people are gonna win by just advertizing... Most, if not all people got the awards they deserved... And it was oodles and doodles of fun... So yeah, what's the big problem?

Buahaha. Yes, lets all pick on Yoshi! -grins-

I think that the PPT'bies CAN be a popularity contest.. but if we work at it to NOT be one, it could be a good thing. I have a few suggestions, but I don't know that I want to post them here.. -ponders-

Not all awards are based on popularity.
I was one of the least popular people in my High School... but I was still voted best female artist by my graduating class. *shrug*

My own experience with the PPTbies was... very popularity contest based. I won't go into details, but needless to say, I was unimpressed. I'm not saying every single entry was biased, but I know that more then the one that involved me was.
*shrug*

*shrug* While the PPTbies were fun, I see what people are saying. A large majority of the categories seemed to be popularity based, though a few weren't, and were based on talent. (Sorry to single you out again, but Yoshi is an example of this :P)

I wouldn't worry too much about that. There was a category for New Member with Most Potential, I think, or Most Potential Member. (Members had to have joined within the last three months.) So new members can win too. :)

That's just another category that doesn't necessarily mean being popular wins you an award. The talent ones didn't go to people with barely any talent. But because the award for each category can only go to one person, it doesn't mean they are far better than everyone else. A lot of people deserve each award, I think, but you can't pick everyone.

As Sunnie said, you can't advertise or talk about it outside of the board so it's easy to avoid it. But if there is any way to make it less popularity based and more deserving/talent/fair-based, then that would be great. (CaeCae, won't you share? :P)

Just a thought, but maybe when you nominate someone you would have to also provide proof of some sort that they really deserve it. maybe quote one of their posts or something. Also, maybe we could nominate people and a panel of judges actually decide who is more deserving OR switch it around and a panel put 3 people (or whatever) up for each catagory and we can only vote on those three people.

Well, I believe the old system was that if someone got maybe 10+ votes then they would be nominated. Then when the time came all those who got over the 10+ votes from the general public would be nominated and people would vote for who is most deserving of the award. Then the person with the most votes at the end of the voting period would get the award
