I created a guild yesterday and got 20 members to join it using the neoboards, but today my luck wasn't as good.

Do you know any ways to get members to join?

I offer everything other guilds do and my layout is awesome (everyone that joined so far has complimented it)

This is not an advertisement, I just need advice is all.

Thanks in advance for any advice given :)

In all honesty, word of mouth seems to the best way. If you have a good guild that's close and active, people will start coming steadily. I never had the luck you have had on the neoboards, but I usually bugged my friends into submission XD

<STOWA|Sleep> my sister questioned the title. "Half Blooded Prince? Does that mean he's a Moogle"

Also Try having the members of your guild posting on the board guild. I also think the Bill thread in ppt fourm can be a place to post about your guild. Congrats though, the most i only got was 2 sorta active people to join, lol.

I found my guild when I went to a user's shop and saw a notice saying that I could choose any item from the shop free if I joined. I joined, and I'm still there three and a half years later.

Not long after I joined, they had a recruiting contest - 100k for the person who recruits 10 new members first. I won it :D

Hehe, I love my guild.

Set by Hellyer :D Going to use all my set contest entries eventually!

Advertisement is the best way. Recruiting people through contests... BRIBERY :P! It all helps, but the main thing is having a lot of friends on neopets getting them to join, and there friends to join, and there friends friends.

Good luck with your guild, just remember this (from the Chat Rules)

Quote:
promotions offering prizes of any sort (including contests, raffles, lotteries, chain letters or any kind of giveaway)

None of the above are allowed anywhere, including guilds.

Those rules only apply to raffles or contests in which the member has to pay to take part in. Contest sponsored by guild leaders and such are allowed, on a general basis.

You can't have a contest... you can have a challenge, and if someone happens to recieve an item from the person who held the contest for no apparent reason, then that is okay. They pretty much don't want you to promise something because they've more than likely recived millions of neomails saying "So-and-so promised me this if I got this answer right, when I did they didn't give me anything - you should!" This rule eliminates that from happening.

No, a guild may not have a contest, the rules are the same for the entire site. It's in the T&C and there was an entire article on Guilds in the Neopets Magazine, Issue 6 (pirate lupe on the cover). This is from the article (I'm not going to try to type the whole thing)

Quote:
So, just to recap:

A contest is an activity where the participants are offered (or promised) the possibility of receiving a prize in exchange for participating in (or "winning") that activity. This is NOT allowed on the Neopets site.

A competition is an activity in which participants are never offered (or promised) the possibility of receiving a prize in exchange for their involvement. They participate solely because they want to. This IS allowed by the Neopets site. Keeping this in mind, should the proprietor of a guild decide to give an item(s) to someone who happened to be a participant in one of their competitions, then this is okay, as there are no rules against this on the Neopets site.

Also, new member packs, birthday packs, motw, motm, things like that are not allowed, they are considered giveaways.

Our guild leader and co-leader had many email correspondence with different Staff asking them about donations, raffles, contests, giveaways, the packs, etc. and both were told by various Staff that those things are not allowed.

I would not want to see anything happen to anyone who is owner, on council or just a member of any guild. That's the reason I brought this up in the first place. I've seen the boards of guild members saying their leader and council were all frozen, the guild deleted because of contests, etc. And I've seen people get warnings for saying their guild has contests, parties, etc. It's just not worth it.
