For Neopets ONLY discussion.

My friend was browsing neopets and she got two birth control ads. I asked her to screenshot the ad, but after seeing it it left me wondering if it was even PPT-appropriate.
I've had little problems with the ads, other than thinking they were annoying, so far. But this is nutty.

You can always use the simple methods of 'getting around' seeing them. If you do not know them, check past postings or PM me.

Yeah, I know there are methods...I don't mind the ads myself. But it more bothers me that they would advertise like that, and people like my younger stepbrother could stumble along ads discussing people's ... er... "personal lives"?

Um.. That doesn't seem too appropriate.. :O

I dont see how it is inappropriate. Small kids nowadays know what "birth control" is, most of the neopian population is older than 13, and kids nowadays are getting pregnant earlier. I dont think its bad as long the add is kept PG

I think it's highly inappropriate... while there's older users, there's also a lot of young children who would have no idea what birth control is.
This was ranted about in the neopianrants community on LJ, there's a link to the ad
here.
Warning: The ad isn't exactly appropriate for younger members, etc, so be warned if you click.

well, that is a wrong way to advertise it too.

I don't really think there's a right way to advertise birth control on what is claimed to be a "children's site".

first off, we are making conclusions without knowing. Neopets has a filter for ads depending on age/country. I am sure about the country one because I do not get any US related ad, only the online about ads.
It may also be directed only to 13+

They are advertising on family planning?

O.o I should have seen this coming, but for some reason, I didn't. I mean, I'd rather people used it if they needed it, yada yada yada. That might not be the best way to go about advertising it on Neopets, though. They don't even like dating or such with pets, but they'll advertise birth control with the users. Double standards? I think so.

Well, I'm in Australia, and I used to get US related ads before getting rid of them.

While we've all more or less come to terms with them using ads, there is a question of what is and is not appropriate for the site. I feel birth control ads are completely inappropriate for a family site. It should be up to the parents when to education their children about birth control and everything that goes along with it.

inappropriate indeed...
thing of childhood as the kids sponge stage, he/she sucks up almost everything he/she sees or interacts with.
just hope little kiddies don't see it...
hey wait maybe the ads only show up on ppl that put their age in the appropriate part, 16 and over??
