I think Disney would definitely be able to make the argument that the striped wocky was confusingly similar to the Cheshire Cat. Since Neo works so closely with Disney, though, I doubt they would even want to get into it at all. I do think the more stripey design would look cool done in the normal striped Neopet colors.

I've spoken with quite a few people and they've all said that there is not likely anything that Disney could do. The Wocky looks nothing like the Cheshire cat aside from the fact that they both look like cats and Disney cannot copyright "stripes on a cat" nor can they copyright colors, such as those on the Cheshire cat.

Afterall, although it might not be the Cheshire Cat, it has been designed in that way and Disney would probably argue that the sub-conscious link to the Cheshire Cat is enough.
You can't sue on the subconscious though... as far as courts are concerned there's no such thing as subliminal messages... I'll have to look up how far copyrights go but I don't think Disney would be able to do anything over this. Look at Wooldoor Sockbat and Toot on "Drawn Together." and I'm sure they didn't get permission.

Parodies are not against the law :) Oh and speaking of Parodies... the Wocky does somewhat look like the Cheshire cat and if you look at the name: Wocky... that is a shortened name of an Alice and Wonderland creature the Jabberwocky. :)

Anyhow, this isn't really a super serious post, just thought it was a neat idea :)

you're completly right about that, and the drawn together was a perfect example :D (i like that show, however embarrassing revealing that may be, hehe)

the jabberwocky was from alice in wonderland? i thought that was a really old poem...although i have no idea, for all i know it could have been written by the same author :oops:

I would like to see the striped wocky remade this way what do you think?

Here's how it really looks:

I'm going to get seriously flamed for this, and I hate fighting the trend, but I'm afraid I seriously dislike the idea. First of all, I don't like the colors chosen. And second, I LOVE the pink-on-white stripes the striped Wocky has.

Also, although we're a VERY RARE breed, I am with the few that still say that Wockys are foxes. They just remind me to much of Tails from Sonic games to make me think otherwise.

And lastly, I HATE that cat from AiW! Why can't he just tell her what to do and quit with the frikkin' confusion-talk!?

No! The Chesire Cat is one of my favourite literary characters!

I like the idea, but I doubt it would ever happen. And I love when certain species get a unique variation of a colour (see Spotted Kougra and Kau).

Also, Neopets have said that Wockies are meant to be related to cats. It was soo long ago, but it was said somewhere.

Actually. no they didn't. They said quote:

Quote:
Are Wockys dogs or cats?

Neither! They are Wockys! :)

That is from the NT editorial! Thus, they are in fact, NOT cats!

Not at all... or at least you shouldn't. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions... it's just an idea :)

Aww, it's a pretty neat idea, I love the Cheshire Cat! If Neo did it they probably could potentially have some legal trouble, though maybe not likely..

Heh, I'm quite attached to my Coco as a hot pink and white wocky though...

Well may main point is that I think that the striped pet brush should be used with a creative eye as the brown and spotted brushes are to make sense on some of the pets that they can be used on (rather than the boring standard pale blue/pink stripes). I think the Uni should look like a Zebra in its striped form, as well.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Here are some CREATIVE and thoughful changes on standard colors...
Dalmation, Cow, a regular Brown Horse, a real Koi (picture: http://www.vijverfun.nl/koi/grote%20koi%206.JPG), and a cheetah. All of these spotted pets are creative uses of the color different from the standard of black spots on a dark yellow coat.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Subtle changes to the standard template make these look great, as well.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Creative twist on what could have just been a standard pink Lenny
I rather like the current striped color!In fact, I was going to make my main pet that color, however, for some reason I didn't. This was long ago, too, so my memory is vague, but I think it was back when you could only paint female pets striped. Of course, I suggest you REALLY don't trust my memory, as I have trouble remembering recent things, let alone stuff from years ago.
Eh, I think it's a good idea but it's too obvious of a reference. I like the Wocky the way it is. While it's kwoot (I love the Cheshire Cat! X3) it just doesn't seem like anything Neopets would do. Cute idea, but I don't think many Striped Wocky fans would be happy to see their Wockies would turn into a dissapearing cat. ;)
I do like your idea though. It's cuddly. *pokes the Wocky*
AS this is the Gallery, not the copyright issues board, I'm going to ignore that part of it. *dry*
I think it is a wonderful idea for a striped wocky. I love the kind of creative pet colors (like dlfreak mentioned)
I'm apparently outvoted, but I guess it doesn't matter, really. No matter how many people love it, Neopets won't be doing it. Lovers of the current striped paint brush rejoice!
