thee are limited story plots that anyone can follow, thats what we are learning in english anyway. take billy elliot the film we studies:

intro person
person discovers dream
person finds difficulty-> against the world/society/overwhelming adversity
person seeks to overcome adversity
succeeds

*shrug*

Mweh. Anything can relate to anything if you try hard enough. I mean, nobody else can relate... everything... to Pelennor, LOTR in general, and Braveheart... but I can. Eragon steals from... everything... so it's not surprising. Not that I'm insulting Eragon- it's a good book.

xcept ofcourse that braveheart is made up entirely of mel gibsons deluded fantasys.
same goes fro patriot really.
heck everything he or hollywood ever did.

anything that ever happens is a copy of the famous saying anyway.

I heard Eragon was similair to star wars, I think his uncle is even killed just like in star wars, but he probably put it in sub-conciously not on purpose :P

You can go to your local book store and pick up just about any book and find tons of similarities like that. All heros have to have a rough life/strive to prove themselves. They all need a weapon, they all need a bad guy to fight, they all need accomplices, ect. So really, Star Wars isn't the base here, the base would be the first story ever written about a hero, and let me tell you, that was written long before George Lucas was born ;)

Star Wars was, after all, trying with all its might to be an archetypal Hero's Journey. That said, Uncle Garrow is ripped straight off of Uncle Owen. Brom is at least a stereotype rather than ripped off of any one work, and while he does resemble Obi-Wan, I'm not going to take it lying down if you say it about Sirius, which at least one MuggleNet editorial writer has done.

Brom does have the Gandalf temper, though. And that's a very good thing for characterization.

Do what you will; but I will hinder it if I may.

i once saw a book called (i can't remember) and it had a cover VERY similar to indiana jones, had the same colours, the same font, and even a face similar to Harrison Ford... on the back it said he was an adventurar who tries to find ancient treasures...

i think you should have been stupid not to have seen the similarities, if you would've been there

Lol.

When I was in 5th grade we had this 'meet the author' thing. A kids mom came in and was talking about rumors about the next book. That was one of them. When she read it about 10 kids (including me) said at the same time: "No, Harry, I am your father. NOOOOOOOOOO!"

XD

If that's the ending of Harry Potter, I will crawl into a neat little hole and mourn the series. ^__^ Can you imagine? Hagrid will have to say, "Well Harry, I guess ya got James' hair by accident then. Wonder why Lilly n' Voldemort were a couple?"
Heh, I can see the similiaries between Star Wars and Harry Potter. There are similaries in everything, but it's still pretty funny. (Even if I don't follow Star Wars too well.)
