it is a sad sad day when one must be bribed to learn.
oh well, with luck the government will raise the old "people who earn less than £XXXXX dont have to repay their student loans" back up (its at £10k a year i think)
paeleontologists dont earn much, i could sure do with some money.

The first three gimmiks are just that, gimmiks, but the last one...the birthday card one is good in my opinion. It makes the university look like they actually care...good marketing in my opinion!

It's too bad for them, really, because whenever I get stuff in the mail from colleges I just chuck them out.
Like it said in the article-- it's only the desperate schools that send stuff anyway, so why would you want to go there?

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Reality TV comes to campus What a cool school! The university allowed Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee to film his reality show, "Tommy Lee Goes to College," on campus.

UNL really lowered their standards, eh? I'm so ashamed. My dad used teach and research there. Thank goodness he left. However, I doubt Tommy Lee would be taking high level engineering grad courses.

:P The only requirements I need in a school are:

-Good location (no bad areas with high crime)
-Good professors
-A good school (as in a well-known school)

I don't care about dorms, I have $400,000 for a house/condo there. :P
Tuition I don't care about.

Lucky you. Those of us less fortunate are on perpetual financial aid and even that's not enough.

All I want is a ... good college lol. And location is good too. Tuition = :/. Tuition @ my school is like 20K now. Just a little less than lots of colleges. So ... w/e. My school's insane though. I could rant forever about it. But it's a elementary/middle school. Not a college.

Anyways, I thought that the play your field thing was pretty odd o.O

Agreed in spades. When I chose my college I chose it on it's programs and the fact that's it's close to my family, but there are times that I'm kicking myself because I get my max in loans and grants for the semester and still having to pay 500 extra a semester for tution, all of my books and no meal plan so all of my food throughout the semester. It's wonderful that you have that kind of money that you can just do that o_0. But most of us do NOT get that luxury. -_-

And then there's my college, which simply spends its money on shiny brochures, weekend tours for prospective students, and top-flight academic programs.

Sometimes I think a lot of colleges have it all wrong.

I agree, but a lot of people have it all wrong as well. A big name and prestige doesn't necessarily mean the best education.
