Nope.

My family is anything but close, and I never see anyone other than my sister and brother that stop by the house every once in a while. My mom had a "phase" which she searched desperately for family lineage, but that faded quickly. A lot of my family members are strewn about the US, Canada, and elsewhere.

We don't know much about our family's history. However, we do know that several generations back, on my mother's side, we were aristocracy (Qing Dynasty). One of them was a court official. He risked his life to make some sort of controvercial suggestion to the Cixi Empress. It, of course, highly offended her and she ordered 9 generations of our family to be executed. Most of us got away in time. :) We don't know much beyond that. We know even less about my father's side. They ran a successfull bakery business, and that's about the extent of our knowledge. We'd like to find out more, but most of those that know more are dead or unaccessable. I know my mother's going to try to find out more the next time she goes back to China.

Don't be afraid to see the truth, even if no one wants you to. Be yourself and not a fool. Don't ever be afraid to speak your mind and listen to criticism. Dissent is keeps our country progressive and willingness to challenge yourself is what keeps yourself ever evolving.

Well, some crazy lady (one of mom’s bazillion cousins) did some huge research about our family history putting mom's grandfather and grandmother (from her father's, my grandfather's side). So I have a whole book about that, including all my second cousins etc.

The rest is really a mystery; I don't know a schmack about my relatives from dad's side of the family tree. And the relatives of my granny (mom's mom :P) is pretty unknown too. Ah well, not that I really care about a bunch of dead ancestors. I'm more into who I'm related to in modern history :P

I'm not really into it, but my family (Fonseca) comes from Asturias, Spain. I think in the 1500s or something we owned castles. o_o Er... on my dad's side (Diba), I have a cousin Farah Diba. xD Google her.

The reason I bring this up is because when my grandmother died recently, I received our family's historical coats of arms from an English line and a French line...but they were Stockton and Veazey, respectively. I knew nothing, or next to nothing, about the Lewis line that is my own surname, save that I'm decended from General Andrew Lewis of the continental army.

So I spent the majority of yesterday looking up my ancestors on the web, through various websites and family historical societies. I had gone into this endeavor thinking that the name Lewis was derived from a sept of the Clan MacLeod, but now....

...turns out my family came from Wales (random note: related by marriage to the line of Edward I, as George Lewis of St. Pierre, Monmouthshire married a sole female heir in the 1500s).

Which means I'm going to have to stop making Welsh jokes.

Well that sucks doesn't it?

I'm not really into family history but my ancestors date back to the main prophet (Muhammad -- P.B.U.H) of the Islamic religion. It's like being related to Jesus Christ for all who don't know who Muhammad -- P.B.U.H is.

It's actually quite nifty that I'm related to a religious prophet.

Not really. Now I have the Scots to pick on. Trade a red pill for a blue pill and all that.

Personally, I don't really find it that interesting. However, it can be a more interesting way to learn history. I always thought the stories were what made history facinating (rather than just memorization of odd dates and places, etc). Just my two cents.

And what in blazes does it have to do with The Matrix? Oh, never mind, I haven't seen either sequel.

Do what you will; but I will hinder it if I may.

It means nothing, I just wanted to have two different but similar things.

And, as it turns out, I'm going to have to shut my mouth in general - I've found an important scottish ancestor. So I can go back to wearing kilts! (just different tartans)

Don't worry, many Scots find the time to be self-loathing.

Actually I find my family history pretty fascinating. My grandparents led some pretty interesting lives, a lot of which happened before they came to Canada. I'm not so interested though that I have done some of my own personal research, but I do like to hear the stories. I chose "when it suits me".

It's a really long story that none of us know the truth about...but no one is really sure where we come from exactly. I know I'm Russian, Hungarian, Irish...and then we loose track. My family has had a lot of secrets, most of which my mom will either never tell me or doesn't know.

Kind of makes me wonder. Maybe I'm some sort of lost royalty! :P Hah, yeah right.
