Can you actually
become albino? I always thought you had to be born that way.
Vitiligo can be caused by reactions to drugs or medications. And I HAVE heard of hair turning white due to extremely stressful situations.
But as for going albino, as it were, I'm not sure how totally possible it is.
entirely, certain genetic damage can cause it (radiation and drugs as you said) though ive heard of other things causing it.
albino is so much a mutation of the gene (hair and eye colour obviously) as a lack thereof.
causing damage to the specific genes (or removing them) reverts the colour back to its pre-specified colour, which is white for hair (as you age you hair turns white, possibly due to said gene degradign over time, but im not sure) and pink for eyes.
Welll... when you get old your hair simply stops creating the pigment it used to have, and therefore it has only the "base" color.
When you have albinism you fail to produce melanin, the photoprotective pigment (which makes us brown when we tan, for instance). When even your eyes are affected by this, basically what happens is that the pigmentation of the iris and choroid are lacking causing light to penetrate directly through the structures of the eye rather than only through the pupil.
