In school next week we have to do "Demonstation essays". They aren't really essays. Basically, we have to show how to do something. This is my first (And last) year in this school, and I want to do something really cool. We have 4-5 minutes.

EVERYONE does cooking (They prep it 4-5 minutes and baking doesn't count towards the time). My teacher said some people taught how to snowboard or ski out side (Which I can do neither) and you can also bring animals in to show something.

Its not like you show that you can do it, but you have to be able to show HOW to do it. I want to do something exciting, not like origami or something (I like origami, But its hard to explain and not exactly a "THATS SO COOL!" Kinda thing).

Ideas?

Do you have pets? Show them how to groom a pet, or do something with a pet.

Do you make graphics? Show them how to make a really quick graphic.

Do you speak another language? Give them the basics on how to say a simple sentance, like "Hello my name is _____"

Do you skateboard or rollarblade? Teach them how to do a trick.

Do you know sign language? Teach them that.

You could do the baking thing but make something that doesn't have to be cooked, and then share it with the class.

Sorry if none of these ideas work for you, it was all I could think of.

Teach them how to do a tableaux. No one knows how to do it.. then again, why would they need to.

Edit: Teach them how to make a kite!
Make jewelery

I agree with the oragami idea. We had a similiar project once in school a few years back. One girl showed us all how to make jumping oragami frogs, and it was actually really fun! If you think oragami is hard to explain, I'm sure you can make a chart or print out diagrams online to help yourself.

I actually chose origami (making a bow tie out of a dollar bill) as my topic on a very similiar assignment in one of my college classes, and the other students really enjoyed it. A bunch of people got out dollar bills and tried to make one of their own.

If it helps you any, I was thinking of doing card tricks/magic as my original topic. That sounds like one of those things that would impress people.

You could make something cool like instant quicksand or something....
I did a paper helicopter this year. I threw it out the window and managed to slow it down by 1/2 the time.

walk on custard!
get a starch based one, and keep moving, while in motion it acts as a solid, but if you stop.. well, youll golp down to about your knees, and it will be rather hard to get out again.

Walk on custard? That's gotta need a lot of custard though....

What about the no-splash liquid? I think ZOOM has the directions in the ZoomSci section.
